Keeping Angels in a Reef Tank

Just curious on the number of users keeping an Angel in their reef tank.

Now that I have my tank I am thinking about adding one.

Current corals list is: scoly, doughnuts, acans, hammers and torches.

I made a post about this before, but just wanted to see if opinions have changed. Also, changing my desired fish from a Sumatra red coral beauty to a potters.

I have a 100g mixed reef and keep a flame angel. She leaves all the corals alone with the exception of the GSP which she nips at. I wish that she would eat it more to help keep it in check!

The dwarf angel I had LOVED lps. It was delish! Acans, Brains, donuts, anything fleshy. Sympodium, Candycane, etc..

Up to you if you want to risk it.

One Adult Emperor Angel in a 220 gallon SPS only system.

Regal and Majestic Angel in my softie/LPS/anemone reef. Debating about getting an Emperor Angel as well.

I had a Flame Angel in my old 90-gallon SPS tank, and it nipped ALL the SPS. At least it didn't have a favorite, so it never killed anything, but PE was terrible.

I've got a flame angel in mine but it has only been there for a few months so its still too early to know if it will become a coral nipper.

emperor, flame and coral beauty all have been reef safe for me

trilinearmipmap 04-26-2016 03:38 AM

Flame angel for years, leaves corals alone.

I have a flame and pygmy cherub and they leave all sps and lps alone. I love the little pygmy.

Singapore (Vermiculated) Angelfish. Eats flake, pellets, nori & forages live rock for critters, I assume amphi/copepods. Leaves my coral alone. I have hammer, palys, gsp & monti caps.

My Lamarck Angel is awesome. Not brightly colored but pretty much 100 reef safe and it farts bubbles all the time so who wouldn't want a farting fish?

well I think im going to take a chance and see how it plays out.

Just wondering would it be best to add it last, or does it not matter when I add the fish in. I am still in the early stages or stocking my tank, so I hope its does not become a douche towards new addictions if I add the fish now.

My Watanabei Angels seem to be reef safe , I thought at one point they were nibbling on my acans but I think it was just my longnose hawk fish sitting on them and causing them to close up

I would say one of the last . Mine isn't friendly to new comers.

I have had my Golden for about 2 years and I have seen her nip once and a while but have never noticed any damage thank goodness cause she is beautiful

spit.fire 04-27-2016 04:30 AM

i have 2, they both eat zoas

corpusse 04-27-2016 10:49 AM

I've got a pair of masked swallowtails and they outshine all the other fish in my tank up to and including achilles tang. That being said Genicanthus angels are considered reef safe and are likely as reef safe as say tangs which are rarely complained about.

Aquattro 05-13-2016 06:02 AM

I've had various large angels, BlueFace, Emperors, Queens. About 40% of them were fine, the others all ate everything. It's always a gamble, so if you add one, be prepared to remove it.

gmann 05-13-2016 03:38 PM

thanks...

I've decided to take the risk, so as soon as I find one I like I will let everyone know my experience.

shiftline 05-13-2016 04:15 PM

I had a flame for a while and he seemed to only really nip at my porcillopora
