May have found the issue, renovations would be an understatement I hope it's coming along well after reading this I can only imagine how bad it was

On Monday, June 25, 2012, at approximately 1:10 a.m., unknown suspect(s) gained access into Red Coral Aquarium at 2501 Alyth Road S.E., by prying open the bay door. Once inside, suspect(s) pushed over fish tanks and smashed almost every tank that had livestock (fish and coral) in them. The value of damage and the loss of livestock is estimated at $150,000.

Coralgurl 07-15-2012 03:34 AM

Wow. This is absolutely heart wrenching to read! I hope they catch the a$$holes that did this. I'm sure this must have been a sickening sight to walk into.

Kevin, I hope you can recover and look forward to a new opening!

lockrookie 07-15-2012 03:39 AM

OMG that sux... i hope all is well

cuz 07-15-2012 04:02 AM

hmmm, nothing stolen?

sitandwatch 07-15-2012 04:21 AM

It's from crime stoppers

Stuff could had been stollen does not say so who knows, it's just an unsolved case at this time.

Regardless huge loss.

Skimmerking 07-15-2012 04:52 AM

Wow that makes me sick to my stomach when i read this. Kevin I'm so sorry to hear.

Ross 07-15-2012 06:07 AM

Holy _#0@!!!

I worry someone would do this in a house break in all the time but to ransack a store is beyond words.

CherylMcKay 07-15-2012 06:17 AM

Omg... It was so nice and fresh in there when I was down in April. So sorry there are people who don't give a Crap about all the beauty they destroyed. Good luck getting everything cleaned up.

SeaHorse_Fanatic 07-15-2012 07:41 AM

How heartbreaking. Sorry to hear about your losses Kevin. I hope they catch the bleepholes who did this and they get to become some big con's plaything in prison.

Myka 07-15-2012 01:45 PM

Sorry to hear about your situation Kevin. I can't imagine walking through the doors of the store the next morning. This is always my greatest fear for LFS (that and people pouring toxins in the tanks). I don't understand why people would hurt and kill innocent animals like this. My heart goes out to you and everyone involved with your store.

Zoaelite 07-15-2012 04:04 PM

It makes me sick to think someone would have a personal vendetta such as this, my condolences to Kevin & his family I can only imagine how much effort will go into fixing this.

its just sad what some people can do:( i hope you are able to set up again kevin if you need some help fixing it up pls dont hesitate to ask.

magikof7 07-15-2012 04:45 PM

I can't imagine what that was like walking into. My heart goes out to you.

You got a volunteer here too, I'd come down and help out.

FishyFishy! 07-15-2012 05:07 PM

For sure, I'm in if volunteers are needed for rebuild.

I'd be happy to help as well!

Enigma 07-15-2012 05:42 PM

Omg this blows. :( I love Red Coral. In addition to all of the great people, the store is the safest in the city to bring younger children into.

Count on another volunteer here, too! (maybe two or three, even)

"Sweat equity" can go a long way in an insurance claim.

SeaHorse_Fanatic 07-15-2012 05:57 PM

If I can convince Irene to do a family vacation to Calgary, I'd be happy to volunteer as well. I even have my own tools.

Magma 07-15-2012 06:48 PM

Holy crap why would anyone do this! Kevin and the crew put in so much work for that new store and some *Censored* had to go and ruin the little guy. Wow this is sickening to hear.

SteveConn 07-19-2012 09:03 AM

Wow... that is so disgusting that someone would do that!! Very sorry to hear this! Hope you open up again soon!!

Leah 07-19-2012 01:13 PM

 ~ UNBELIEVABLE how anyone could do this heartbreaking act. So sorry for all your losses gang! I hope you will be up and running again soon. If I can do anything at all, not sure what, but Let me know.

Leah

mseepman 07-19-2012 02:56 PM

Very sad news! Kevin, your store is my "must visit" location when we come to Calgary every year. Hope they catch this person and string them up.

DiverDude 07-28-2012 07:31 PM

Any update on a re-opening date ?

I'm in need of some......stuff.

DCDN 07-29-2012 05:58 AM

It really shows the value that Kevin provides to everyone with the number of people offering their help on here. The same goes for me if you need any help I'm more than willing. This is a real shame and hopefully things are up and running again soon.

Ryan 08-06-2012 12:13 AM

Whats the word on an opening date ... if there will be one?

kien 08-06-2012 04:08 AM

:-(

gridley 08-14-2012 05:58 PM

Very sorry to hear about this Kevin - hope the rebuild is going well.

michika 08-14-2012 06:32 PM

Well I guess this answers my question as to why you weren't open when I swung by to visit.

That sucks on so many different levels.

Zoaelite 08-14-2012 09:22 PM

Any update here? Would be nice to hear RC will be open in the future, all of my attempts at communicating with Kevin have gone unanswered at this point.

Robw 08-14-2012 11:32 PM

Yes it would be nice to know when he is going to reopen. I have been holding off buying lights until he reopens. If it is going to take too long I will have to go somewhere else :(

same here and i owe him money:(

badAZZlars 08-14-2012 11:35 PM

I'm not sure why a business wouldn't want to communicate with its customers about something like this. Yes it was an awful thing to happen but why the lack of communication?

lockrookie 08-15-2012 02:04 AM

something like this not only hurts your buisness but your pride im sure thoughts have gone through their heads... if i could do it differently i would have done this to secure the store and that... please be kind ...yes there may be a lack of comunication but if i was them i wouldnt want to talk about it either. as well who knows what other personal issues are going on in thier lives on top of it. im sure if you talk to steve he can help you out with your needs its a little less convienent.. but if the store is meant to be open it will re-open... i know what it was like when someone lit my company van/mobile office/workshop on fire i almost gave up.. insurance was a bugger to deal with.. redtape and all an every time yu look at were it happened you remember what happened..

just sayin keep up the support best you can...if its meant to be it will be im sure they will apreciate the kind words along with the customer loyalty of patiently waiting. but in the end you otta do what ya gotta do. even thou i dont live there i kinda hope it re opens more so to stick it to the creaps that did it in the first place... you may make me stumble but always will i rise to the top again..

ok off my soap box now lol

The Grizz 08-15-2012 02:36 AM

I heard through MY grape vine that RC might be reopening in Oct. but that's just what I have heard. I hope it's true & Kevin can get back on track soon.

Starry 08-15-2012 02:45 AM

Keeping my fingers crossed. and bet it will be better than ever.
