Riceboy's new 82.7 one piece eurobrace starfire build

Well its time for a new build and upgrade  you've read it, its going to be a 1 piece starfire eurobrace tank and fully polished with three sides starfire and back of the tank will be black, and black silconed. After talking to most shops and other tank builders in town I have decided to go with CONCEPT AQUARIUMS since he gave me a smoking deal on the tank that no one even came close too . After talking to CONCEPT AQUARIUMS and telling him what i wanted this is the idea he had come up with:

http://i569.photobucket.com/albums/s...rsonepeice.jpg

http://i569.photobucket.com/albums/s...erightside.jpg

http://i569.photobucket.com/albums/s...epeiceback.jpg

CONCEPT AQUARIUMS had integrated a wavebox design onto either sides of the overflow and all i need to do is place my vortechs in there and there should be no powerheads visible in my tank ( which was the main thing i emphasized while talking to him). But instead of having a cube tank i had caved into getting this tank, which would be great for my yellow tang and blue tang to swim in . there will be 2 drain holes in the overflow and the middle hole will be used as an emergency drain if either one of the holes were to ever get clogged. The return on the tank will be on either sides of the tank as you can see in the pics.

CONCEPT AQUARIUMS had also designed a baller sump for me as well. When i brought him my design he knew it wasn't going to work so had compiled this up and i must say its a very well thought out design.

heres CONCEPT'S sump design:

I am very excited to get my tank and will be in a process of building a bonsai rock sculpture once i get my new tank set up.

riceboy 12-16-2010 03:42 PM

there sorry just fixed the images i think let me know if you have any problems seeing the pics, i will be posting pics of the tank once i get it. Hopefully in the next 2 weeks

paddyob 12-16-2010 03:45 PM

Wow....looks cool. This should be an interesting to follow.

When is the glass work done?

riceboy 12-16-2010 03:48 PM

hopefully in 2 weeks just need to give CONCEPT AQUARIUMS the dimensions of my skimmer and return pumps so he can adjust the sump accordingly. I must say the wave box integration is one of the smartest ideas i've ever seen and will keep all powerheads, good thing he came up with it cause i sure wouldn't have thought of it lol

DCDN 12-16-2010 03:58 PM

Looking forward to see this tank. Especially with how the wave box will turn out

So how do you prevent your fish from entering the power head chambers? They would never get out if they made it in there.

riceboy 12-16-2010 04:03 PM

i'll be using eggcrate in front of the holes

Take my question with a grain of salt as no disrespect meant....

I am wondering... what is the attraction to bonsai? I have seen a few in pics and have never really cared for the look. Just does not look natural to me.

kien 12-16-2010 04:09 PM

Nice! Wow one piece euro, you must be rich :)

Seriously tho, ConceptAquariums is tearing it up these days! Who are these guys? Are they man or machine??

By the way thanks again for the baking soda!

lol non taken at all. i just like how its not just one pile of live rocks but has many branches and holes a fish can swim in and out, and this look is amazing but to each their own right.

paddyob 12-16-2010 04:19 PM

The first example is really nice. I guess I have only seen a couple bad examples.

Good luck!

Kien you can only post about them with ALLCAPS. Come on!

ALLCAPS aside, if your model is any indication she's gonna be a beaut!

phi delt reefer 12-17-2010 07:12 PM

this is a BALLIN' design. I have seen the vortech wave box idea on nano reef implemented via a custom acrylic box that slipped into the back of a standard Solana cube but i never heard much about it after the build.

If i am interpreting the design correctly are you using 4 mp10 pumps (ie one for each of the holes)?

If so i have an idea for you instead of ugly egg-crate (considering you spent so much time making it beautiful!) Have an acrylic pro make you a grill that will slide into that hole snuggly.

question about flow though - does forcing the pump output through those tight diameter holes (in relation to pump diameter) mean you will lose the wide flow capability of the vortech units? Or do the vortechs only generate flow through the front of the unit and intake water through the sides? Or does it not matter given the wave box design?

sitandwatch 12-17-2010 09:16 PM

Very nice,

I also wonder about the vortech's in the hidden holes would you not loose the undertow capability of them?

Regardless I can't wait to see this going

as it sits right now the plan is just to have two vortechs, the bottom holes are to allow water to enter back into the chamber. I may end up taken the abs plastic to a shop and have them cnc some nice grills where the holes are but need to weight that against cost lol
