Are these babies little specs on the glass like baby snails? I would suspect that they hitchhiked over fromthe big one you bought, rather than 'mommy' giving birth two 2 abalones.
Quoted from a website: "Sexes are separate and fertilization is external. The eggs and sperm broadcast into the water through the pores with the respiratory current. A 1.5 inch abalone may spawn 10,000 eggs or more at a time, while an 8 inch abalone may spawn 11 million or more eggs." |

Hi the large abalone is about 3" and the babies are about 1/2"-3/4" long and are definately abalones not snails they look exactly like the large one. Paul

Inspector, Since you're sure that they are small abalones, I would guess they were stuck to the big one when you bought it. You need 2 to make babies as fertilization is in the water column, so that strikes out the 'buying a pregnant abalone' idea. Other than this, I have no clue. |

they sell abalone at t&t supermarket for over a 100 bucks for 2 pieces. you could start raising some cash in your tank

My LFS has started a 180 strictly for the breeding of these guys. Kinda ugly looking fish.
