so no - I'm confident when two good people deal with one another, there is an understanding. when a good seller sells something, and a bad apple puts a bad review.... that's going to come out if someone actually searches the posts and other reviews that bad apple has put up as well. Don't believe me, look up www.thirdgen.org on the classified section. just like car parts, one could say "he never shipped me what I bought" or "it doesn't work as explained". its upto the seller to take the chance of sending live stock which could be DOA, so that's a high risk, so up to them....because of that I would stay away from it keep in mind, these are all just opinions (so I'm not saying I'm right) - however I think canreef instead of avoiding the inevitable (buying and selling of stuff) - might as well try to help the people. anything is going to be better than nothing. Sure there is going to be the exception (as there always is) but its going to reduce the risk at least. Perhaps not enough people on here have done the e-bay thing to understand how to dicier honest reviews and question the bad ones. Your always going to have those that cheat the system by making false accounts just to give themselves good reviews etc. Right now.... its a lot easier to pull of scams though. it seems canreef is over worried about liabilities and think people will blame them for this - simple start off a disclosure indicating potential warnings still and its used to reduce scams but still can happen. on the twist side.... I've bought and sold stuff at a distance already......can you see how that can become good really fast? unfortunately I have nothing to show for it, and people browsing online who might want some of the hardware I have would have been more enthusiastic to purchase at a distance had there been previous reviews. |
one of my favorites is when you sell something for say 110, and someone shows up after agreeing to 110 and then don't have correct change and look at you like you should just give it to them for 100.
I have actually lost a couple of sales because of that. If you don;t bring change, you pay more or come back with the agreed upon amount. now I always have change because this happens SO much. Like probably 1 out of 3 transactions. |
for those that think this would be too much administration - its not. The only explanation in my opinion that can reef should decline such a system is if the suggested i trader platform inst' compatible with the current one, or it costs money.
being paranoid about hurting peoples feelings... well... either that, or I can start calling out names on for sale threads etc. because people deserve the truth about transactions - I don't plan on getting nasty but for example. Buying powerheads from a guy in Calgary who didn't include the much needed power supplies.... took 3 months to ship them..... people get busy.. procrastinate etc.... I would just state the fact. Its going to promote him/her to either A, decide not to ship next time or B be more diligent not to forget parts or C, realize their screw up and send right away and maintain an good status. screen shots curtosy for www.thirgen.org (see under left pane sig for "classified rating": https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/76516329/1.JPG when you click on link, you can see reviews.... you can question if the people leaving reviews are legitimate as well by clicking on their status's as well. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/76516329/2.JPG |

Still turns into a he said/he said and we're not here to mediate arguments. We offer a forum to buy and sell, and it's offered under the "use your own discretion" guidelines.
Honestly, there have been very few conflicts other than the trivial complaints offered here. If somebody didn't read your ad properly and missed your posted availability times, FFS, just work it out. someone doesn't show, sell to someone else. If it's that much trouble, give it away, toss it out, or put it under your stairs. I've yet to read anything in this thread that isn't classified as first world reef problems, and honestly, the staff all have better things to do that manage seller reviews. Oh look, coffee time :) |

it's a good feeling when they "remember" they have a 10 in the car. |
Aren't we getting carried away here a bit, making a mountain out of a molehill? The thread was good to remind people of pet peeves by both sellers and buyers. But really,... these are pretty minor issues compared to what happens with other online buy/sell sites. I worry more about scammers, but have yet to encounter one here on canreef.
I have bought and sold a lot of frags and other stuff here on Canreef. Can't say I have ever had what I would call a bad experience. Sure, there were a few times (but not very many) where someone didn't show, or respond back to me. But nothing out of the expected. Everyone isn't perfect and there are often unknown extenuating circumstances. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt unless direct evidence or experience indicates otherwise. In fact, I would say, have got to known personally many local canreefers that otherwise would just be names on this forum. So I would say the positive vastly outweighs any negatives with our Canreef classified section. |
