Very nicely done! Fish must be loving their new home!

I think I've generated a makeshift algae scrubber. I just added some eggcrate after my skimmer section and threw in some macro algae before the baffles. Noticed some green algae forming on the eggcrate.

reefgirl189 05-15-2012 03:20 AM

Cool! I've been looking forward to seeing this tank stocked.

Me too!! but it still looks empty...need more livestock!

subman 05-19-2012 03:19 AM

Starting to tie up the loose ends and get back to reefing lol

I installed some under counter led's on the stand frame so I can see whats happening under there when the frag lights are off.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...-38-55_428.jpg

I also got an LED grow panel from Kevin (reefme) to grow the algae on the algae scrubber
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...-38-10_589.jpg

now for the exciting stuff (for me anyways lol) I built a shuttle pc and found a mimo 7" touchscreen and got them up and running. Thanks to Blue World Aquarium in Victoria for the brilliant idea!

(yes thats the Oil King game on )

As for the livestock the transfer went very well all the fish are doing great and are loving the space. I did loose my cleaner shrimp  and a handful of snails aren't doing so well. I made a mistake and didn't recheck my salinity before moving things over. The salinity was dead on 1.020 when I filled it but over the week that I moved rock in and got ready for the fishes I removed water and topped off and....after the shrimp died the salinity was 1.010. The snails I thought all died but when I went to remove them they weren't dead but seemed to be stunned. I've been slowly brining it up and they are mostly back to normal now.

subman 05-19-2012 03:23 AM

Some more things on the to-do list:

-Chris is building me a custom top off tank and it's going on a pull out shelf for easy filling.
- install a couple cheap webcams on each side of the sump so I can check on things when I'm away from home or even when the skirting is on without removing it.
- control the diatom issue:twised:
-add some frags to the frag section
- Get some more fishies!!

Proteus 05-19-2012 04:08 AM

I really like your algea scrubber. Never seen that before. Might just try it out

gridley 05-19-2012 04:22 AM

Very nice! I like the High Tech stuff you are doing. Well done!

+1 wish my electrical area looked even half as nice as yours. Very exciting to see it filled and a few fish in there

subman 06-05-2012 09:04 PM

It's been a while since Ive updated mostly becasue I can't take any good livestock pics. Ive broken out my slr and......still trying lol
Picked up a massive football sized squamosa clam...
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...-43-39_135.jpg
Sorry for the god awful pic.

subman 06-05-2012 09:11 PM

My buddy Chris dropped of my shiny new ato tank this week....
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...-29-37_715.jpg
and I finally got it installed last night...
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...-51-05_639.jpg

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...-51-23_683.jpg

It's on a cabinet pull out roller to make it easier to fill.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...-57-11_315.jpg

Ive still got to plumb it properly and get the cords run properly but it's nice to have the ato running.

subman 06-05-2012 09:14 PM

I've also been collecting zoas like crazy...picked up some darth mauls, rastas, watermelons, candy apple greens and reds, and my prized possession (right now ) a three headed space monster paly!
Ill keep trying to get proper pics and post them asap.

Nano 06-05-2012 09:27 PM

looking good Jason!

I might have to touch base with you eventually on trading/buying some zoas

Coralgurl 06-05-2012 11:55 PM

Great use of space under the tank! Wow!! Great job!

lapdog2020 06-06-2012 12:16 AM

do you have a doser? would be going in the electrical box Im assuming if you have one....there looks to be a bit of floor space left in the EB that you might fit a couple 1g food containers into?

Coralgurl 06-06-2012 04:36 AM

Got nothing for ya, I don't have a doser myself, but you still have lots of room!!

subman 06-06-2012 10:43 AM

The doser is on top of the electrical box.....
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...-40-48_581.jpg
I was thinking about a pull out shelf mounted just under the stand.
Id like to keep all liquids out of the EB if possible.

Mike-fish 06-06-2012 02:35 PM

Is there enough air circulation there to keep it from over heating

sphelps 06-06-2012 04:12 PM

Looking good Mr. Sub

The dosing unit itself isn't vented so there shouldn't be any need to assume it has space requirements for air circulation. I don't think they run very hot, the motors are small run at low speeds.

subman 09-26-2012 08:47 PM

It's been a long time since I updated this and that is mostly because there was nothing all that notable lol..... Until today:mrgreen:
I picked these up from my good buddy Ken at bwa.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...926_142532.jpg

I very excited to see them in action!

subman 09-26-2012 08:48 PM

Sorry for the blue pic I can't take a nice picture to save my life

waynemah 09-26-2012 08:53 PM

Cool! I want to see them in action at some point... Might go that route.

How many did you pick up?

BlueWorldAquatic 09-26-2012 09:13 PM

Yeah, he was pestering me since the FragFest, can't believe you picked them up already. They only came in 2 hours ago.

one was supposed to be my demo.

reefme 09-26-2012 09:31 PM

I want to see it too!!!

I picked up two for now if they work out I'll sell my Radions and get 2 or 3 more. It might be a while to set them up as I didn't order the wireless controller as the big selling feature for me was to us a mobile device to control it....hopefully this weekend we will know more.

As soon as I get it set up I will have a good old school reefer party (maybe reefer party is a poor choice of words lol)

Coralgurl 09-26-2012 11:19 PM

Good to see you back!

Giving up on the radions??

molotov 09-28-2012 03:41 AM

I don't think Radions will be worth much anymore with the advancement of new LED technologhy. It's like that new laptop you bought two months ago.......it's not worth much today

No not at all I still think they are the best lights out there, I just hope the vega's are equal with the ability to adjust wirelessly. I still Love my Radions and I'm not totally sure if I'm going to sell the radions or the Vega's yet.

Yeah I did see them at Big als in the clearance bin next to the bio balls and air stone skimmers.....LMAO

c'mon they are still selling for the same price as always, they are the top of the line light and I just hope the Vega's can equal them (with easier controllability)
Thanks for the giggle though

subman 10-09-2012 03:51 PM

I finally got some time and adjusted my rack and got all the Iights up...
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...009_094834.jpg
One first look the Radions are brighter by quite a bit, but I'm expecting the Vega's wireless controller today so maybe some adjusting will help.

There are 2 radions on the right and 2 Vegas on the left equally spaced.

reefwars 10-09-2012 04:15 PM

wow the radions look wayyyy brighter:P

looks good buddy:)

Proteus 10-09-2012 05:04 PM

Are they all at 100%

I believe the radions are still ramping up at that point probably about 90%. The Vegas are at 100% as far as I can tell without the controller. I'm hoping I can tweak them to get brighter and maybe they need to break in??

Tagging along... Thank you for doing the comparison!

Arok3000 11-02-2012 05:03 PM

So you decided to sell the Vega fixtures?
What did you not like about them specifically? Did the radion simply outpower it?

Bblinks 11-02-2012 05:29 PM

Subman, are you able to get a par meter and take some reading for us? It would be greatly appreciated.

On the side note, the money you spend on 1 radion you can almost get 2 vegas, not saying it's better but just stating a fact.

Not exactly I actually had the Radions for sale and had a buyer for them last week, I had a conference in Ottawa so he was going to pick them up this week. Then I learn last night Ecotech has dropped the MSRP on the radions, the price for new was less than I was hoping to get for them. I'm not prepared to take a $800 loss in a year so I am really forced to keep them (not all that bad I still love them) so now the Vega's are for sale and I have a order in for a couple more radions.

I will try to get a par meter and do that although the par meter and leds don't seem to jive the readings are a little miss leading.

As for a side by side comparison now that I have the controller (which is ok at best) the vega's are very close in brightness using my eye meter. I find the Radions have less of the disco ball effect but only noticeable if you are looking for it. I have seen a great deal of growth in all my corals under both lights and with the right amount of tweaking the corals and fish pop under both lights. I think at this point both of these lights are very comparable, and both ways of setting them up leave a lot to be desired.
