Whoa, those look really tiny! On the bright side, they look really easy to expand. Just cut a tab out (in between two slits) effectively making larger teeth.

Is the tank under warranty? You could have concepts correct it if it is.

Wouldn't that make them too large? For smaller fish to slip through?

Yes, possibly :-). The only other option would be to re drill/cut the slits themselves which might be difficult. That def would be the way to go though. I don't have such a tool so I would just cut the tabs (between two slits) and live with fishing my tailspot out if the sump :-/

Maybe another alternative is to cut out the entire weir section (all the teeth) and epoxy a whole new grate/weir grills over the weir area? Or use egg grate inside the weir.

Yea they are only 1/16" as you can see before those pics I drained roughly 15 Gallons out of the display in anticipation of having to somehow widen those slits. When you look at the one photo you can see a scum line from my dry rock of where the water was before I took out the 15 gallons. From that point it raises to almost touching the euro brace and im sure if left it would go over it had it had enough water. At the point of just about touching the euro brace it really starts flowing into the overflow box but by this time it never equalizes and just runs the return pump chamber dry while the display slowly floods.

Hi Trevor

Yes we had a run of tanks that had this problem:redface: didn't realize at the time the surface tension of water would back up with those size cuts! we figure it would look cleaner but never work out that way

give Denny a call at the shop at 5873237360 and i will have a new panel made up and overnight it out to you

thanks Dave

Super Dave to the rescue..... Lol this is why so many like concept.. It should be easy to replace Trevor just sucks that you will have to drain the tank but if carefully you shouldn't have to move your rockscape

absolutely , we had several tanks that we did this too , like dave said the idea was to make it a cleaner look but for some of the large tanks it couldnt handle it.

right now we go with a machined 1/4" notches for all tanks.

i have spoken with trevor on the phone and we are in the works of getting this resolved quickly for him.

in the mean time trevor just break off the current teeth you have this will allow you to finish up with your plumbing, i will have new acrylic out to you immediately:)

cheers buddy

Hey guys....Well I certainly did like the look of the smaller gaps, I never even thought of this being a possible issue when I seen them after the tank was built. So I have broke off every second tooth and the drains flow flawlessly did my emergency drain test by closing the gate valve on the main and the unrestricted 1.5" drain is a BEAST!

Thank You for your timely response in helping me rectify this issue!

Trevor W 02-23-2013 06:13 PM

I would also like to give a huge thanks to Lockrookie and Kien and everyone else who has so quickly helped me through troubleshooting this issue. It reasons like this that make a strong online forum so invaluable.

lockrookie 02-23-2013 06:49 PM

Eh... Kien and the others had the right idea from the start I was originally in denial of the teeth lol just glad you got it taken care of.

UPDATE #1

While I was waiting for the new overflow teeth I got started on my panels for my stand.
Nothing major so far just 2 coats of primer/sealer. I am still undecided on if i am going to go with White, Grey, or Black for the final colour.
Cue the shotty cell phone pics.....

UPDATE #2

I also just this evening installed the new acrylic overflow teeth.
I'm not entirely happy with it and once dried I will be touching up what I can. So yet again, cue the cell phone pics....

Let me know what you guys think of the stand and my fix on the overflow.
