Since I had the camera out today for some other stuff I thought I'd snap a couple of randoms in the display.

Thanks for sharing the pics Greg. That's a mighty fine Christmas colored A. abrotanoides in the last pic. I've always loved how different the corralites are on that species compared to most acropora.

I'm just curious, do you think it makes more sense to dose the prodibio to the new salt water to allow the bacteria to grow in there before doing a water change, after you do the water change, or do you think it doesn't really matter?
I am not an expert on the subject but I would assume that bacteria settles throughout the reef and doesn't simply stay in the water column therefore I would guess that it would be best to dose after a water change to help "recharge" the reef.

Thank you. Yes I like the look of abrotanoides as well.

Just added a Maroon clown I picked up from a local reefer - she is a big bruiser. To put things in perspective this toadstool is about 8 inches across.

This stylo is an extreme pink (hard to capture the color) but around a couple of burn spots where an acro fell into it the new growth polyps are bright green - it will be interesting to see if this continues to morph over time or turn back to their regular color.

It is quite an interesting coral for sure. Originally came in on a Fiji order I did in the fall of 2010 and I was losing the colony due to some tank troubles so I asked a friend to take my remaining frag as an insurance rescue. I got it back from him last summer when he shut down and it is now really starting to take off. I quite like the color & unusual corallite structure but since it was a rescue that I was able to get back I guess have a kind of a sense of attachment to is.

Snappy 01-08-2013 06:11 AM

Recently picked up 9 dispar anthias to add a new "color splash" to the reef and I am pretty happy with them so far. They look great schooling about and an interesting observation is that since the new fish arrived my goofy chromis group quit hiding in the rocks & corals and have started swimming as a group again and often school with the anthias.

Here's an out of focus shot of some of the new fish. Nice thing is they are already eatig pellets.

What is the pink heart shaped one in the middle?

Are the ones in the bottom picture the same as the post above?

You are most welcome to do so. Although that said the yellow rics are part of my small personal collection that are not for sale (yet)

Hey Greg very nice pictures of your specimens, you tank looks like it's doing great!

I wanted to ask: do you still have the "Garden of eden" acropora you used to sell? If so, I'd be interested in seeing what it looks now-a-days. Also, could you give me quick placement tips; it's has always been a problem child in my tank.

michika 01-13-2013 05:12 PM

Any reason for the dispars over other types of anthias?

Unfortunately I no longer have that coral, lost the colony in my 2010 crash. I think it did best for me under intense light and medium flow.

I have been trying to find a school of bartlets for a long time but couldn't find any so I bought these. They are very colorful and reasonably easy to keep but I guess the main reason was they were available. I first bought 4 but once I got them into the tank for a bit I liked them enough that I went back and bought the remainder they had left which was 5.

Thanks, since I got it it's been hidden at the back of my tank. I guess I'll move it up a bit to give it a chance.

Nice picture. The tips of mine look like that, but the body is brown. I just cleared up some nice real estate by trimming a bird nest. I'll try it at the very top and hopefully it'll color up like yours.

penelty 01-14-2013 02:04 AM

Deeper purple comes and goes. I have mine a few inches from the top of the tank under 400w halides.

Very nice, glad you still have it. My original frag of it came from a friend who had had it for over 10 years so I am glad it's still alive out there.
Both of us lost it within a short time of each other.
