Grizz,

just came across your thread, I like your tank, I just got my 8 foot ( 96Lx22Wx24H ) glass tank up and running a couple weeks ago. took 6 of us to carry it into the house. I am curious to see what you do with yours.
not too many 8 footers around.

That sounds like a sweet tank as well

Hey I resemble that comment  This tank is a keeper the wife will not let me go bigger. But there might be a another tank build at some point in time for my office.

The Grizz 03-09-2010 04:31 AM

So nothing really to update, had to stall for a short time because of shortage of cash, really need to sell my other tanks that are posted.

Plus I have to get my 65 hex set-up and plumbed with the 20 gal sump and CPR overflow in order to get my 75 corner empty.

Will update as soon as possible once I get more done.

The Grizz 03-16-2010 06:04 PM

Little update got the hole's drilled in the bottom of the tank for the closed loop. Now I can go get the bulkheads and PVC fitting's required.

Everything that is in my 155 Bow Front will be going into it but there is a few more fish I would like to get, like a Powder Blue & Naso Tang & Koran Angel.

fishytime 03-17-2010 04:08 AM

Lookin good Greg!......I noticed the beautifully cut holes in the plywood under the tank..... I would think about going bigger with those holes....when I cut my openings I left 1" from the outside edge of the bulkhead and it is very difficult to get a wrench in there for that last 1/4 turn you need to "seat" the bulkhead:wink:

Oh that will happen once the tank comes off after all the plumbing is done. I am making sure that all the plumbing can come apart & so that the bulkheads can be removed. That way the tank can slide off stand and onto sawhorse's so I can finish the wood work.

The Grizz 03-18-2010 04:33 AM

So I pulled the tank off the stand tonight and cut the bulk head hole's bigger with a jigsaw to allow better access. Also went to Totem & Home Hardware to pick-up the remaining trim, hardware & some stain to finish the stand.

Decided to go with a OM 4 way for the closed loop, should have it hopefully Monday, as well as the bulkheads. If all goes well tank will be operational by next weekend.

More pics to come soon.

bauder1986 03-19-2010 10:11 AM

They are at the back of the tank and will be hidden behind the LR. the only whey they will be visible is if you look down from the top of the tank.

The Grizz 03-19-2010 07:59 PM

No I am going to be using the programmable wall switch timer's that have a built in battery back up. Catherine is selling some and is holding them until I can get to Calgary to pick them up. I have the one's in the pic on my 155 BF and they are a pain in the but, as we have power flicker often out on the acreage.

Marlin65 03-19-2010 08:45 PM

Nice that will be much better

The Grizz 03-20-2010 02:43 AM

Built the cabinet door's tonight, have to figure out how to attach the hinge's for the front door.

Ken from Blue World has received my OM 4way in store today, so i have to go get it (whoohooo) cant wait to pick it up

I'm talking about the outputs not the bulkheads

Oh ok, the returns from the sump at the top. They will be hidden by the top canopy sorta thing the I have to figure out yet.

The Grizz 03-25-2010 03:34 PM

So I finally got the door's made for the stand and mounted. The have to be stained now.

Also lined the inside of the stand with 1/2" styrofoam to help with and noise and keep the wood from collecting and moisture.

http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/x...0build/001.jpg

Started to configure the sump with the skimmer's and build a cover for it.

The Grizz 03-26-2010 03:11 AM

Also had an idea for a carbon box off my skimmers. So here is the start of the construction. Took about 20 min to get this far, building 2 of them.

The Grizz 03-26-2010 08:38 PM

Ya I decided to go with 2 - 4' door instead of 4 - 2' with double hinges. Have to get the wife out this weekend to help me stain it and then the tank can go back on it finish the plumbing.

the marine apprentice 03-26-2010 09:09 PM

Awesome get that sucker stained. When are the lucky buyers gettin the bowfront?

The Grizz 03-27-2010 06:15 AM

The new owner's of the BF are having a wall removed before they get the tank so I would say I have a couple more weeks.

bauder1986 03-27-2010 10:28 AM

haha thats awesome that they are removing a wall for your old bowfront....totally a worthy home for it.

They are doing some reno's to make there living room bigger instead of trying to build a tank into the wall. They decided it would be better to go this way to keep more room open.

The Grizz 03-29-2010 03:02 AM

Well I finally got the top of the stand all stained and one coat on the door's, coat #2 tomorrow morning before I start my work day and then the last coat tomorrow night.

Got a little more done tonight. Put the tank back On the stands, put all the bulk heads in and started plumbing my OM 4 way. It is all just dry fit still have to glue it. Also have to plumb the supply line from the tank to the 4 way yet as I forgot to get a couple fitting's. Once this is done it is on to the electrical.

Quite the project, nice job. I've noticed the tray you built for the return pump and haven't read the entire thread, but it looks like a Panworld external pump. Have you considered the possibility of a mishap filling up that tray and submerging your external pump? That could be disastrous. Pretty sure the motor is not waterproof.

Ya I have thought of that but hopefully it will all work the way I have planned. The tray is just to catch any water that might spill if I have to pull a pump out. If all the plumbing is sealed correctly there should be no mishaps.

The Grizz 04-02-2010 02:52 AM

OK well all the plumbing is now done, but now I need to find a new impeller for the MAG 36 pump that was sold to me NFG.

So now it's time to run the check list.

Metal stand...........................check
build sump.............................check
stand door's & top..................check
drill more holes in tank.............check
get lighting............................check
skimmer's, heater's, reactor's....check
line stand with styro...............check
electrical panel......................in progress
water test plumbing................soon
move tank to house................not soon enough

sitandwatch 04-02-2010 03:00 AM

Oooo 8' shallow I like that, looking forward to seeing it moved into your house.

Me to, it will be a challenge to move from the shop to the house in one piece as I hope to do. I don't want to have to take the bulkheads out to pull the tank off the stand so it will take at least 6 of us to move it in.

bauder1986 04-02-2010 03:36 AM

a hell fire up the skid stear, well do it with the up the the house greg haha

The Grizz 04-04-2010 04:46 AM

Well I have found a new pump for my closed loop with the help of a cool cat in Regina, lockrookie. :thumb: Hopefully I will not have to change to much of the plumbing from the OM 4 way.

Finished wiring in light timer's today before my cold got the better of me. Just about done now.:biggrin:
