Hey Everyone!! New here and from Tillsonburg Ont. "my back still aches when I hear that work...Tillsonburg.." New to the hobby and looking for information.

You can check out my tanks here. http://www.livingreefs.com/custom-bu...nt-t29668.html

I didn't know this site exisited, but glad I found it. Tired of getting told sites from the State to buy things. I like to shop local...when they have what I need. :)

mark0933 11-20-2010 01:50 PM

Welcome aboard, I am from St Thomas, and have been doing marine for 15 years, so if you need a local hand (my parents are from Tillsonburg) just ask.

Mark

Thanks Mark! I'll keep you in mind if we ever move! LOL. I've always wanted a marine tank but never had a partner that would let me have one until now. As long as my bills are paid she doesn't care what I spend my money on!

welcome new ontario members, you found a great site!

fury165 01-16-2011 08:44 PM

Ontario here as well, GTA to be specific.

jd949 01-26-2011 04:05 PM

Ontario as well. Milton to be exact.

I've never used them but found this site www.incredibleaquarium.com
They are located in London. Prices seem good on tanks. Big Al's wants $749 (crazy I know) for Biocube 29HQI, they list them on their site for $499 cdn. But Big Al's does do price match I believe, so if you are closer to Big Al's you could always try and get them to match or beat the price.

reefermadness 01-26-2011 09:24 PM

For a nice custom tank that is reasonable in price...try aquatic kingdom or NAFB.

Being from Milton you should be checking out the stores in the GTA...

Sudbury Big Nickel dropping in!

SirJamieson 04-06-2011 07:23 PM

Hello!

Hey everyone. Brantford ON here, but I work in Burlington and head to the GTA every once in a while.

Reading through this thread, there have been a lot of good suggestions for LFS stores to check out. I always worry about the smaller stores and tend to stick to the Big Al's, but it sounds like I should be doing the opposite.

I'm setting up a Caribbean reef, and I was hoping to get some yellow-headed jawfish and eventually a cherub angel, and I was a little worried about ordering online and having livestock shipped to Ontario from who knows where.

ReefSudbury 04-06-2011 07:28 PM

Hey SirJ I wouldnt suggest ordering livestock online. Drive to Toronto with a cooler of newspaper and a couple crack heat packs. As for ordering equipment, thats usually the most affordable option. I order all of my equipment, and I am always satisfied with the products. If you need some suggestions, PM me with a list of stuff and I'll recommend a site that would work

I wouldn't want to be accused of speaking ill of the big box stores .... however, I've never seen livestock as healthy at them as at almost any of the smaller LFS.

In fact, the healthiest fish have been at the "smaller than the corner store", mom & pop LFS - without exception.

The trick is, it takes a bit of work on your part, you have to ask around & look around to find out who's good & who's not so good - then stick to them like glue! :)

Oh yeah, ordering (livestock) online - I've ordered hardware, inverts & coral & not had any problems. I haven't ordered fish. The thing is you have no idea of their condition & the freight is usually brutal unless you order a lot!
Even when I lived 3hrs from Calgary, I still found it worth it to take a Saturday to go there, do my general shopping, do my fish shopping & maybe visit some friends & come back that night. I could usually do that & spread the gas cost across all the shopping and come out ahead of ordering livestock online + I got to visit the fish stores, ask questions & chose the stock I wanted!

phi delt reefer 04-06-2011 08:57 PM

you have access to Oakville Reef Gallery in Oakville and Advanced Aquatics in Milton. Both have healthy setups. ORG specializes in corals but can bring in whatever fishes you need. I assume AA can do the same for you

cheers

Vince

+ 1..... billion.

Ignore the name brand stores. They all have students and people aren't experienced. LFS is "Local Fish Store" so go local

rayjay 04-25-2011 03:40 AM

It's too bad one of your first posts had to be such an offensive posting.
I wouldn't have any objection to the mods removing the offensive part of your post.

Thanks for the deletion

Jewel 04-25-2011 04:18 AM

Guelph here, Yes any help is great, It's tough when you read about someone in Calgary who has some nice rock for sale at a good price.

Jewel 04-25-2011 04:33 PM

Ya know what you mean about AP And AJ, You know the guy banned me because I forgot to put the foot print of a skimmer I was selling, too funny

Hello from Newmarket, stumbled upon this site this morning when i was trying to figure out why the wickedfrags website wasn't working anymore :D seems he sold his tank early last year...that's what happen's when you take a year break from reefing and only run fowlr, you lose all the tidbits that make this hobby run!

MrsNemo 11-25-2011 01:07 PM
