Welcome back! I think I disappeared around the same time you did. I have kinda been back lately too.

I miss reefing....really do. it's one of the things that was always in the back of my mind during this last while. now tht I'm back on my feet it's definately going to happen one way or another. Be it at the shop or once green card goes through at my apartment/house. Nothing big...seriously (quiet all of you! I don't need/definitely can't afford a big ass setup!) I've really been tossing around the idea of a 20 Gallon Long...nice dimensions and not uber tiny, so lots of room to mess around

it depends on what you find i got my 50g (the thread you read) for 50 bucks off used regina. given thereare a couple nicks and scratches but i can deal with itas long as its not too bad and my woodwork will cover the worst of it.
everything has been fairly in expensive so far lights not included ive spent(including tools for drilling and cutting glass skimmer)600 bucks. which was spent from june till now. i estimate by the time its all said and done total cost for this build will be 1100... by dec when water fills it. still not cheap but streetched out over time its do able. search the local classifieds you never know what treasure awaits dont always have to go new tohave a thing of beauty with a side of stress:) |
I have made an observation after looking at my nano viewing habits and others with larger tanks.
The people who own larger "long" tanks tend to sit back and admire the majesty of their reef, they like the movement of the fish and are particular about the aquascaping to make sure it is balanced and pleasing to the eye. The big tank reefer usually has his viewing chair a few feet back so he/she can see the whole "big" picture. Now a nano reefer sits VERY close to his tank if not on top of it. With only 2-16 inches between their eyes and anything in the tank they enjoy eye-crawling every crevice of their rock and enjoy the "nano" side of owning a reef. The point of my observations? None really, just perhaps anyone who sets up a nano for the first time, or vice-versa, will see a different side of this wonderful hobby of ours. |
