Sorry to derail the thread a bit, but I saw you got the food grade big barrels. Are they from this:

It says it used to house liquid sugar so I'm not sure if it's safe for mixing saltwater for tank use.

Then wash it with pure RO to be sure. But the vinegar and tape water should be fine. But be sure to wipe it dry. The metals from the tap water would dry on the plastic if you let it air dry. My fish seem fine so I guess what I did worked.
