I've actually been working on a portable / motorized screen to protect the tank while a good ole game of billiards is going on. I may have to work harder on that lol

Sorry Doug I missed your post, always happy to have you over. As soon as your an E-towner! lol

I just finished moving my current tank about 10 ft away. I feel like we just moved houses!! Moving tanks sucks! tank looks like garbage and all my nice corals are chilling in jr's tank nice and safe till its time to move back to the new home.

I think I need to steam clean the carpet before I start moving the big boy into its permanent home.

subman 04-19-2012 03:44 PM

Just a quick update, Ive been working on getting the stand done. Would have been done sooner but the NHL playoffs have been a lottle distracting!!

Here are some pics:

I covered the bottom plywood with a sheet of melamine so its not pressure treated plywood directly on the carpet.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...-00-35_986.jpg

All the internal sides of the wood has been painted with an oilbased primer and then multiple coats of a latex kitchen and bath paint.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...-58-39_310.jpg

I've also been working on the controller box..

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...418_232931.jpg

Still some more mounting to do in there including the vortech controllers.

Wow! Very nice! Look very professional.

The Codfather 04-19-2012 04:26 PM

Hey Jason, slow down. You're making my build look bad(if thats possible). Let me know if you need a hand with anything, everything looks good.
Bob

gregzz4 04-19-2012 05:51 PM

Nice work
Your controller box has me thinking how exposed my sump panel is. Time for some brainstorming

I really wanted everything under the stand but was afaid of the splashing. I already replaced the motherboard on this profilux and I don't want to do it again.

subman 04-22-2012 04:04 AM

Well today was a big day! Chris was amazing enough to come over with a set of suction cups and help me lift the monster onto the stand.

I can't say enough good things about Chris (lapdog2011) he offers to help lift a 500lb tank on his day off, because he wants to see me happy with my purchase! Unbelievable service and a great person.

Coralgurl 04-22-2012 04:08 AM

I have a feeling this is going to be one schweeeeet setup! Looking great!

Yeah they are still hanging where the 90 was. Need to build a 6' rack so I can add one or 2 later.

Those are the old ones lol I want to add one more soon but have some other needs first. I just started looking for a return pump but started thinking I would use 2 smaller pumps one for each return. Any downsides to using 2 smaller ones or advantages to using one larger one?

gridley 04-23-2012 04:17 AM

That is looking very nice - I like the compartment on the side for your electical equipment. Well done.

Yes it is. I plan to have the middle section for frags until they grow out enough to mobe to the DT.

subman 04-24-2012 10:13 PM

I had a few questions about the electronic box so I'll post up some info. Its made of mdf (I know mdf and water is no good but it was sealed with kilz oil based primer and then a latex top coat) all the edges were glue and nailed with finishing nail.
As for equipment in it my Profilux 2 is on the top shelf. The left side has the 2 radion ballasts (room for a couple more), two of the planned 4 mp40 controllers on the right. In the middle is the two profilux controlled power bars. I placed panduit around the box to contain most of the wiring but need to add more or swap it out with larger ones.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...-42-55_623.jpg

I've removed the UPS from this picture but it will supply power to a heater, pump and one mp40 for about an hour.

Coralgurl 04-24-2012 11:49 PM

That electrical is some impressive and well thought out! Wow!

gregzz4 04-24-2012 11:59 PM

Nice job on the electrical. The UPS is a nice addition
Have you ever had your power go out for an extended period ? We did a couple years ago for the first time in 17 years. It was out overnight and I had to run the gas fireplace. Because of that, I have a BU battery for my Vortechs that can run both at 50% for up to 36 hours. If you're interested I'll send you the link for that little build.
And, sorry, I don't mean to be critical ...
Is there much heat thrown by those ballasts ? I was wondering how it may affect your powerbars

Ive been using that ups for a couple years and Ive had the power go out a couple times for an hour or so. I had to adjust what I had powered off of it but I would get almost an. I hour running 2t5s, a 200w heater and an mp10. (The first power outage using it I had everything on it lol lasted 5 min rofl) I was thinking of getting the vortech one but I like picking what runs.

From what I've seen from these ballasts they don't really produce any heat at all barely warm.

Today I was looking at micro pc setups and might throw one in there to remotely log in and program everything (profilux & radions). Then put a lcd moitor in there just to.look cool lol. Maybe even some web cams later.

If you do decide to get one and want to save some money, I built mine for under $100 and it will run longer than the OE unit. You can decide how many pumps to hook up to it.

Have you seen an EEE before ? They originally came out with a 7" screen, but I think they have 10" now

http://static.trustedreviews.com/bfe...-asuseeepc.jpg

subman 04-25-2012 04:13 AM

Lol I have the original eeepc 7" somewhere in my house

gregzz4 04-25-2012 04:18 AM

Stick it in your electrical box
If I had one lying around, I would have hooked it up to my RKE instead of running a 20' cable

subman 04-25-2012 04:29 AM

I have to find it lol

gridley 04-25-2012 03:46 PM

As I was looking at all the equipment you have in your electical box (and it looks impressive!) I was wondering if you have any ventelation to disperse the heat, or is there so little heat that it is not an issue? I will not have room in my stand for this kind of box but will likely build something to to sit beside my stand and I am trying to think through the construction of it.

subman 04-25-2012 06:04 PM

I had thought about the heat building up but the only thing producing heat is the Radion ballasts and they barely produce any heat. If I was still running halides I would have a fan pressuring the box to also force any humidity out (still might for that reason). Also the front is going to be a magnetic skin so it's not sealed in the front.

subman 04-27-2012 12:14 AM

Couldn't find the eeepc but I did come across my old convertible pc. The screen folds over to become a tablet.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...-12-32_636.jpg

Its sitting with the keyboard down so I locked it out and only use the stylus and remote log in to use it.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...-12-07_466.jpg

Also got the light rack built and hung today

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...7-50-01_19.jpg

It's aluminium angle that I made a box out of and the Radions just sit in the channel

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...-49-37_952.jpg

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...-43-19_666.jpg

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...-43-35_302.jpg

I know it looks like the the sol is 10x brighter in the last pic but the radions were only at 20% when I took it.
