So for the life of me I could not get a decent pic of my (technically Doug's since I bought it for his as part of his Christmas present) candycane pistol shrimp but out of my millon attempts, here are the best pic's. Added pointy arrows to show where the pistol is. The right side of the pistol's body just above the yasha http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC_0022.jpg The front of the pistol beside the yasha http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC_0025.jpg His pincher claw http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC_0030.jpg His tail http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC_0032.jpg Yasha tucking in for the night http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC_0037.jpg |

I find it very difficult to get the camera to focus on something tiny when there are other objects nearby that attract the focusing feature of our digital cameras. Perhaps a different lens would solve this for you so I vote you go out and spend several hundred on a new lens just to take pics of your peppermint pistol shrimp so you can post better pics of it for your fellow Canreefers:razz: |

I saw a few pairs of these guys last night for sale... anything special they need requirements-wise? They seem pretty fascinating to me but I'm worried they'd hole up somewhere not easily seen. Be like taking some cash and jamming it into your rockwork for kicks...

hey laurie to get my pistol out what i do is lay a bunch of rubble right next to their den then push sand into his lair ....mine goes right into clean mode and pushes the sand out but with the rubble blocking the hole he has to literally come out and push or pick up the rubble and move it.
mine was quite secluded at first but after me feeding him so many times hes out and about all the time now never leaves his den but he comes out into the open about 6 inches. my pistol hosts 2 gobys an orange spot and a red striped goby its usually the red who has him but once in a while he will leave and then the orange moves on in.....the red always comes back because hes more aggressive |

not something i would count on seeing all the time, i got lucky he choose his den right in front of the tank minus a bit of digging or during feeding time i dont see him.at first i never saw him it took awhile. i have a mantis in the sump and a pistol in the display between the two i have a good metronome hehehe:pp |

Gold Neon Eviota Goby (Eviota pellucida) http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC_0099.jpg A dwarf goby of some sort, the lfs said it's a pink stripe goby, one pic on the internet said stripe head goby :noidea: I call him my upside down goby because he hangs out upside down under the rock and swims upside down. Edit: Dawn ID'd it and it's a Stripehead Goby (Trimma Striata) http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC_0100.jpg |
Awsome little guy. How big is he? Looks tiny.

Worked for my yasha, since I've add it I haven't found him in the overflow. However the other day I found my stripehead goby in there  not sure how he got in there :mmph: "Nano goby fence" -as Doug calls it  http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC_0113.jpg |
I've had to do that on a few tanks too. The mesh is a pretty tight weave though, you'll need to keep on top of scraping the algae off.
One idea I'd consider if I was in that situation is I'd make a little frame out of acrylic that you can just plop on top of the overflow. Ie., an acrylic lid with say eggrcrate glued to that spaced so that it sits close to flush on the inside of the overflow's eggcrate, and then zapstrap the mesh to that eggcrate. That way when it comes time to clean it you just lift it up, take it to the sink, and plop it back in place 5 minutes later. |

Doug: before you get your panties in a knot, I can look, so long as I don't touch. Isn't that the rule? |
So long as you only use eyes to look I think you're safe.
Nice fix Laurie... you're lucky there were no corals down there that's a good sized piece. |
Yes thankfully there was no corals or little fish in the spot were it fell. Freaked out for a bit when I first saw it on the sand bed then saw all my fish were fine and breathed a sigh of relief.

So after having a very sad morning/early afternoon yesterday (my step-dad's funeral was yesterday at 11am ) I dropped my Mom and sister off at my Mom's house (they wanted to rest) and since I felt the need to cheer myself up and my Mom's house isn't to far from AI.....I decided a LFS distraction was a good idea.....and these guy's happened to follow me home
Green clown goby http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC_0117.jpg Barnacle blenny. Funny thing about him was that he was hiding in a shell at the store which he refused to leave, but I figured that was a good thing as he'd be easy to catch and place in the tank and he'd already have a home. So I carefully placed the shell onto a rock (shell is circled) and I thought if he left the shell there was a hole in the rock beside the shell (arrow pointing to hole) that would make a great home for him. http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC_0128.jpg However he had other ideas and swam to the other side of the tank and found a spot http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC_0114.jpg |
