Thanks Dawn, if I need to prune it I'll let you know. Also you could ask Neal howdy20012002, he has lots.

So for the life of me I could not get a decent pic of my (technically Doug's since I bought it for his as part of his Christmas present) candycane pistol shrimp but out of my millon attempts, here are the best pic's. Added pointy arrows to show where the pistol is.

You're just lucky your life did NOT depend on it:wink::twised:

I find it very difficult to get the camera to focus on something tiny when there are other objects nearby that attract the focusing feature of our digital cameras. Perhaps a different lens would solve this for you so I vote you go out and spend several hundred on a new lens just to take pics of your peppermint pistol shrimp so you can post better pics of it for your fellow Canreefers:razz:

I saw a few pairs of these guys last night for sale... anything special they need requirements-wise? They seem pretty fascinating to me but I'm worried they'd hole up somewhere not easily seen. Be like taking some cash and jamming it into your rockwork for kicks...

reefwars 01-10-2012 09:45 PM

hey laurie to get my pistol out what i do is lay a bunch of rubble right next to their den then push sand into his lair ....mine goes right into clean mode and pushes the sand out but with the rubble blocking the hole he has to literally come out and push or pick up the rubble and move it.

mine was quite secluded at first but after me feeding him so many times hes out and about all the time now never leaves his den but he comes out into the open about 6 inches.

my pistol hosts 2 gobys an orange spot and a red striped goby its usually the red who has him but once in a while he will leave and then the orange moves on in.....the red always comes back because hes more aggressive

not something i would count on seeing all the time, i got lucky he choose his den right in front of the tank minus a bit of digging or during feeding time i dont see him.at first i never saw him it took awhile.

i have a mantis in the sump and a pistol in the display between the two i have a good metronome hehehe:pp

Potentially it could be very much like stuffing money into your rock, especially in a tank as big as yours. No real special requirements, just a sand bed. My yasha eats mysis, Arcti pods, Cyclop-eeze and I think he eats the .5mm pellets

The pistol did come right out a few times, once when the camera refused to focus, once when I gave up and had just put the camera down and once just after the battery died :mmph:

A dwarf goby of some sort, the lfs said it's a pink stripe goby, one pic on the internet said stripe head goby :noidea: I call him my upside down goby because he hangs out upside down under the rock and swims upside down. Edit: Dawn ID'd it and it's a Stripehead Goby (Trimma Striata)

The gold neon evita goby is less then half an inch and the other goby is about half an inch maybe a bit bigger. Both are pretty tiny but super cute and cool

Yep, he's only around a half an inch in size but I can hear him no problem when he clicks. The tank is in my living room and my dinning room is just above where the tank is and every now and then when I'm at the table eating, I'll hear him loud and clear

I had one of those Eviota's before, can't remember what happened but I don't have it now. I saw those stripped guys, they've been there for quite a while. I believe they're a species of nocturnus goby. I keep meaning to go over and grab one. Do you happen to remember if they had anymore when you grabbed yours?

Nope, I guess it isn't a nocturnus. I'm surprised...it's a trimma species. It's called a Stripehead Goby (Trimma Striata) http://sheric.ru/fish/atlas/577.jpg

Cool thanks for the ID. I know on boxing day big als had two, I got mine on Jan. 14th and I can't remember if there was still 2 or not and I haven't been there since so not sure if they have any now.

Ok so my tetris rock scape wasn't the best idea.....awhile ago I found my top rock on the bottom of the tank  Couple of wads of epoxy later and I feel better now

I also got some needle point mesh screen from wal-mart and modified my overflow so little gobies stay out. Worked for my yasha, since I've add it I haven't found him in the overflow. However the other day I found my stripehead goby in there  not sure how he got in there :mmph:

"Nano goby fence" -as Doug calls it
http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC_0113.jpg

Delphinus 01-26-2012 03:25 PM

I've had to do that on a few tanks too. The mesh is a pretty tight weave though, you'll need to keep on top of scraping the algae off.

One idea I'd consider if I was in that situation is I'd make a little frame out of acrylic that you can just plop on top of the overflow. Ie., an acrylic lid with say eggrcrate glued to that spaced so that it sits close to flush on the inside of the overflow's eggcrate, and then zapstrap the mesh to that eggcrate. That way when it comes time to clean it you just lift it up, take it to the sink, and plop it back in place 5 minutes later.

lastlight 01-26-2012 08:54 PM

So long as you only use eyes to look I think you're safe.

Nice fix Laurie... you're lucky there were no corals down there that's a good sized piece.

fishoholic 01-27-2012 02:09 PM

Yes thankfully there was no corals or little fish in the spot were it fell. Freaked out for a bit when I first saw it on the sand bed then saw all my fish were fine and breathed a sigh of relief.

fishoholic 01-29-2012 04:11 PM

So after having a very sad morning/early afternoon yesterday (my step-dad's funeral was yesterday at 11am ) I dropped my Mom and sister off at my Mom's house (they wanted to rest) and since I felt the need to cheer myself up and my Mom's house isn't to far from AI.....I decided a LFS distraction was a good idea.....and these guy's happened to follow me home

Green clown goby
http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC_0117.jpg

Barnacle blenny. Funny thing about him was that he was hiding in a shell at the store which he refused to leave, but I figured that was a good thing as he'd be easy to catch and place in the tank and he'd already have a home. So I carefully placed the shell onto a rock (shell is circled) and I thought if he left the shell there was a hole in the rock beside the shell (arrow pointing to hole) that would make a great home for him.
http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC_0128.jpg

However he had other ideas and swam to the other side of the tank and found a spot
