When the new skimmer arrives, if there is still any issues I will just go with your plan.
I figured since they offered the replacement I would go for it.

got mine in september for 120 gal with sump. problem is water level in sump to low for pump to suck air in. I can not find strong enough pump that will fit. If I cut the suction line any shorter the pmp will be out of the water. I have an air pump hooked up for now but just a temp fix
would not buy again unless hanging on back of a tank

My new skimmer arrived today from Coralife. I will be hooking it up to the tank on the weekend.
The red adjustment knob which was the cause of my leak is much tighter, meaning I probably had a bum unit to start with.
I was amazed how quickly they shipped out the replacement.
Thumbs up to ESU in that regard.

The new skimmer has been connected now for 24hrs and is already pulling out some nasty stuff. Best of all it isnt leaking.

I still believe this is a great skimmer for the money, seeing as I dont have the cash to shell out for a Euroreef I am happy.
