It took me 3 hours to tap water fill only the 10 footer testing for leakage and added a pump for wave play WoW I love it  it is like a kid splashing water around  still excited and took few pictures as I will post tomorrow...

eli@fijireefrock.com 03-14-2014 02:16 AM

Maybe its time for an update as some have been asking me at the warehouse and texting no sure why nothing online,...here it goes

Just ordered the lights and decided to go with what I have been testing for the past couple years and really love the look and the coral growth.
Getting 10 of 100w led to start and could add more if needed going on a sliding rail over the tank.
6 X 100W 445nm royal blue
4 X 100W 40/60 hybrid
I will post photos and a build as soon as they arrive.

Now only placing 2 X WP60 as the waves are crazy thinking of adding couple more.

Went to the warehouse and picked few pieces of Pukani, Tonga Shelf and Tonga Branch I say roughly 800lbs.Sorry no individual photos byt will have a video up tonight as the rock is cycling in a new saltwater mix with about 100 lbs of already cycled rock in my old system.

I used maybe 2 lbs of FijiCrete for some of the rock work to make it that much sturdy.

Still waiting on 3 sumps for curing then install...

eli@fijireefrock.com 03-14-2014 07:16 AM

:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:
Press on me
a little video
of the 10 foot setup

Do rate it and tell me what you think...as it will be a push for me to do more

lpsreefer 03-14-2014 07:44 AM

What are the fish that are going into your tank?

Seriak 03-14-2014 03:08 PM

I love the setup. Good rockwork!

lastlight 03-14-2014 04:00 PM

i like how the rock on the left hides your wp60. some neat little spots with depth in there.

The fish list is gonna be big.
Thinking 5 yellow tangs or a school of pyramid butterfly.
One regal that I had for 5 hears
Tons of colourful anthias
Sailffin had for 3 years
Peppermind hog fish had for 2 years
Sohal tang had for 1 year
3 other tangs I had for 2 years cannot remember name now:biggrin:
This tank is gonna be loaded with colors from fish to coral...that's the plan anyways.

Oh yeh all those too. .thanks Matt stating the obvious that I am bad with names:biggrin:
This list will only grow as the tank matures

eli@fijireefrock.com 03-14-2014 08:51 PM

Holy auto correct from my phone... thanks Denny for telling to reread my earlier post.

Thanks Brett
Both power heads are hidden by rocks and with easy access from both sides of the tank.
There will be no equipment showing at all in my display system.

AS for the depth I love it as it gives the 3D look with the rock work being as some are taller in the front and will be filled with corals throughout and some spots need to angle look at it..

eli@fijireefrock.com 03-18-2014 12:35 AM

I am still working on my DIY skimmer but here is what I got so far its exsactly 40" tall with a 16" base wide...after modding it yesterday its pulling wakky brownies

i like how you put the white led above it to make it shine.

Thanks..the pump is big enough I guess to keep it at bay no issues with floating.

Lol..thanks...
Well I just received my LEDs and drivers not expected that early at all thinking couple more week...well I might start the array build this week end ...I took few photos of the LEDs, drivers, and heat sinks with the fans.I will have better shots in the next couple days.
And tomorrow my dry rock would have been 10 days running in the tank...water testing time tomorrow and will post the results.

You should be able to see the lenses yes they are still in the wrappers.
LEDs 6 X 445nm and 4 X hybrids
10 dimmable drivers
10 copper as I know better than aluminum I tested in the past.

Last night I was suppose to get some water tested but that didn't go so well especially when all the LEDs sitting there in front of me  staring at me...
well didn't take long to decide to put one emitter together and test it...love it and for having all 10 over my tank, I think it's going to be plenty...yes I know photos ...they are coming...I will take specific photos of the LED building today as I plan on building 6 arrays.
plus I need to get water tested today ...will keep you posted..
by the way I moved my clown fish into the tank a couple days ago and he is loving but seems lost between all that rock in the tank.I think I will move couple more fish tonight.

too busy yesterday and today but I am still going to show you...

eli@fijireefrock.com 03-22-2014 09:28 PM

Here is what I accomplished late last night...

Drilling the holes needed on the LED emitters and the heatsink then placing the LEDs on then the lenses goes on..

Placing scotch tape on the face of the LEDs keeping the emitters from finger marks and dust as I learned i n the past how to kill the LEDs

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-V...08-no/2014+-+1
Not sure why the lighter was in that picture:biggrin:
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-N...06-no/2014+-+4

On to drilling 2 holes in each LED using a press drill

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-R...08-no/2014+-+3

Now placing the LED on the heatsink to mark for drilling into the heatsink.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-K...08-no/2014+-+2

Now marking it
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-D...08-no/2014+-+1

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-G...08-no/2014+-+4

Into the drill press...was painful and frustrating doing all those heatsinks one at a time but had to finish

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-5...08-no/2014+-+3

And voila

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Z...08-no/2014+-+2

Chine clean the heat sinks and the back of the LEDs for assembly...

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-G...08-no/2014+-+4

Excuse me as I cannot remenber the name of this electronic piece ...I will just call it temperature set breaker for now,its purpose is to break the circuit between the driver and the LED to save it as if by any chance the fan on the heatsink fails.Hope that made sense..

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-M...08-no/2014+-+3

The above part will be soldered to the + side of the LED.
below is the soldered - side of the LED

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-M...08-no/2014+-+2

There you see it soldered to the + LED side with the shrink tape waiting to slip through
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-N...08-no/2014+-+1

I left out some micro detailed information if anyone is interested please let me know and I will be happy to get into specific details...

Tonight I will glue the lenses on and put the fans in place and possibly wire some of the LEDs and test over the tank..

FishyFishy! 03-22-2014 10:49 PM

Lookin good!!!

sphelps 03-23-2014 05:46 PM

LED build looks nice so far. Heads up on the copper though, while it's thermal conductivity is better it's capacity is lower so more dependent on fans for convection. However the reason you'll never seen copper heatsinks for aquarium LED fixtures is because unlike aluminium it oxidizes quite rapidly with a little humidity, especially with salt. So blowing air from around your tank will quickly cause the surface to oxidize and make the heat sinks less efficient.

darkreef 03-23-2014 06:41 PM

I second this , copper and silver are the best conductors. But they corrode ever quickly .
That's why there always sealed away in wires . Aluminum is usually used becuse it disperses the heat effected zone evenly threw out its surface area .

Would the corrosion get into the aquarium ?
I don't have the answer to that

eli@fijireefrock.com 03-23-2014 09:36 PM

Yes copper thermal conductivity is best for what I am building. In the past 2 year been running same setup over my frag system but kept the heat sinks running 24/7 without having any corrosion issues and keeping in mind the arrays will be about 2feet over the water line...
I guess I will have to play around with it and see but like above from past experience the only maintenance I had to do is take the the heatsinks down 2wice a year and blow the dust buildup.

A question for all as I cannot remember (my memory is not serving me well these days.lol.)
Does a higher gauge wires than required from the LEDs to the drivers is any issues?

eli@fijireefrock.com 04-22-2014 07:04 AM

Wow I cannot believe its been a month since I updated my build...
This is how far I got.

all electrical work, plumbing is finished to the tanks and the fish room.

Water, rocks, few corals and some fish happy in their new home.

Light I love the clean look I have and the room above the tank as the light are way over the tank with plenty to reach a depth of 31" with no issues.

Now I am stuck with either doing drywall or wood or maybe mosaic tiles as the entire facing of the wall to the aquarium?
I need to come up with an answer in the next couple days as I plan on finishing by the weekend:biggrin:

Oh ye I will post some photos and a video of what I have so far...too late in the evening I guess I will wait till tomorrow

No chowder yes very powerful to reach 32" deep and never have to upgrade for a long time.
I love them as I will be taking some photos and a video of them over my tank.
