A few shots of the 90 with the Pink Cap removed.

The clam was getting shaded from the cap; now it's in better light.

Got this frag from O/A awhile back. It was just a browned out little guy but was very hairy so I grabbed it. The pic doesn't really show it but it has turned a bright lemon-lime colour.

Tank still looks great Lance, Bob just got some sand sifter gobies in that will clean that sand bed up for you.

We could all use a little more depth Doug.
The corner tanks are pretty cool but kinda challenging for flow and light. I've got about 47x turnover and some areas get hammered while others don't get enough.

Thanks Brett. The corals have been doing well lately, unfortunately so is the Bubble Algae. As you know how much I hate crabs I just might have to try an Emerald again.

I have quite a bit of valonia and of course most of it is in places my eurobracing makes getting to nearly impossible. I was trying to wiggle a massive one free a few weeks ago and POOF it just exploded. So now I have... moar.

I hate that stuff! I have absolutely none in the 225. Someone in that tank must like it. Probably one of the Tangs, unfortunately they are both too large to spend a few weeks in the 90.

C.B. stands for Coral Beauty. I think C.B. stands for Carnivorous Bitch! Or maybe Consumer of Brains!
Every now and then it takes a liking to my red/green Brain and I have to cover it with a strawberry basket for a couple of weeks until the CB forgets about it. This usually works for a month or two until it remembers how nice it tasted, then I have to go through the whole process again. It's getting to be a little tiresome so I may move the Brain to the 225g. It really isn't a very nice fish at all and just gets more ****y with age, (had her over 3 years now): She picks at the Brain and chases the Fairy Wrasse, PJ Cardinal, Yellow Assessor and Watchman Goby. She's lucky she's so pretty or I'd have traded her in for a bag of rocks a long time ago.

don.ald 03-02-2011 12:09 AM

did the emerald's do the job on the bubble algae or just act like crabs?

I haven't got any yet, and the more I think about the less I want some. I hate crabs! Every one I've ever had did some damage of one kind or another, so I think I'll Ixnay on the Crabsay.

Thanks Christy. The squamosa's colouring was different, not too common, so I snatched him up. The Pipe Organ is now much bigger than a basketball. The strange thing is the polyps are changing from brown to a greenish brown lately. Don't know if this is good or bad?

It was a green pipe organ in my tank Lance so I suspect it's a good thing

Oh good. The polyps aren't actually changing colour, it's like it's slowly replacing them with shorter green polyps.

Well Leah, it's about 18" long and 13" thick. Big enough?

Thanks Mike. That skimmer is a little overkill for a 90g Mike. Be nice for the 225g though, but I'm happy with the MR-3

Lance 03-07-2011 12:46 AM

Marie and I were discussing the Pipe Organ a few posts back and I've taken some pics to try to explain what is happening. The longer brown polyps are being replaced by shorter green polyps. I'm not sure what is causing this and I'm also not quite sure if I like it or not. The green polyps are definitely brighter and more attractive than the brown ones but they are shorter and don't move in the flow as much. This coral is huge and looked like a large undulating mass. Now it looks like a green fuzzy basketball.

You can see the longer brownish polyps toward the bottom section of the coral and the green short polyps covering the rest.

Did this start happening after you upgraded to 400W bulbs by any chance? ....It may not need as much polyp surface to get it's light needs anymore

I thought the same thing; it must a lighting issue. The 400W have been in for about 8 months; I first noticed this change a couple of months ago. Would it take 6 months?

4000.

Tank looks fragtacular too I guess
