Yeah I think about 4 tangs... but anything more would just be unreasonable. I was thinking a Soho, powder blue, xxl nasso and an achillies. But we'll see how they do in the 7 gallon. If they are nice and peaceful, i'll try a couple more!! :twised: |

Tang police will definitely avoid you for that :) |
New update today.
Got sick of not having any frags in there. My CREE's have yet to arrive, and I was getting restless... So I put the Ikea LED's into a 150W Metal Halide Pendant and hung that over the tank for now. I also Put another 4 Pieces of rock from my other tank in there. http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0329-00071.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0329-00072.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0329-00073.jpg I got a few frags from my other tank: 2 heads of Hammer Coral 6 heads of Green Candycane 3 Kenya tree frags... They tend to drop a baby every day in my other tank... http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0329-00074.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0329-00075.jpg And a couple little things have sprung up from the rock I put in there. A green Paly, and a blue spotted mushroom came from nowhere lol. http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0329-00076.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0329-00079.jpg And the good old damsel is doing awesome http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0329-00077.jpg |
Looking good, who did you order your cree's through?

Hey Mike how well do those Ikea LED's work? Any idea what temp they are?
|

They are fully adjustable to any color temp. I have two full sets, so I can adjust to have two different colors going at one time. I currently am running royal blue and pink. Looks good with the 14K halide running. Provides some good color pop, but are pretty much useless at growing corals. The mushroom was shrivled and looking nasty under the LED's, and I noticed that the coraline was turning white in some places. Now with the halide back over everything is looking awesome. I wouldn't buy these for anything other than making some colors come out. I actually bought these because I have an alternate use for them after the tank. I'm using them as their desinged purpose, which is under cabinet lighting. |
Skimmer is now up and running. Went with the Tunze 9002. Love it. It's already pulling decent skimmate.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0412-00108.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0412-00111.jpg Also, my kenya tree somehow managed to drop a couple babies that landed in the sump, and with the fuge lighting for my macro, they are actually growing well lol. http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0412-00109.jpg And a FTS http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0412-00113.jpg Also have a massive white sponge growing on the underside of one of the rocks. Best pic I could get with my phone. http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0412-00114.jpg |
Wow, that's the most complicated and hi tech mini nano I've ever seen. My 5 gal nano just has a power head, heater and live rock. I just change a couple gallons every 4 or 5 days. Nice job man. I gotta bow my head in shame now.

The Candy Canes had some mad tentacles today for about 15 minutes.

Don't think I've ever seen that before. Guess I should get me some candy canes. |
Yeah I like candy canes. I really like how they are perfect for letting you know what something isn't right in your tank. I find they don't grow or expand when something is off, or the tank is in need of a water change.

Update 05/28/2012
Couple small things to update.
My calcium was low, and the 150W halide was too close to the tank, so it started bleaching the coraline white. So I raised the light 6" and everyone seems extremely happy. Also got a couple zoa frags from Kevin at Red Coral http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0528-00211.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0528-00213.jpg New orange zoas http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0528-00210.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0528-00209.jpg You can't even see these really... My tank was not liking my blackberry camera today lol. These are the new green zoas http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0528-00208.jpg My random one green Paly is popping out babies http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0528-00214.jpg Good old candy canes chillin away http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0528-00216.jpg I will get some SLR pics tomorrow. |
wow that looks sweet man! You almost have as much support infrastructure around that little nano as I do on my 150g reef

Very well done.
Just out of curiosity what does the temp range a closed tank like that from the MHI? On my 34 gallon I had to add a chiller in order to maintain a stable temp. |
I've never actually had a problem with fluctuating heat from the halide at all. I do have A/C in my house though, so that might contribute to the stability. But it stays constant 80 degrees all the time.

I am loving this tank
very clever sump mod! thanks for sharin |

This is an awesome little nano.
Keep it up and I totally agree about the kenia tree. That thing grows super fast and drop babies everywhere. Soon I'll have to go around my tank and prune most if it. Can it be sold for anything or is it considered to be a weed? |

Looks cool, loved the fluval edge aquariums, i'm glad to see someone out there had the know how and the guts to DIY into a reef....BUT i think since you are doing all the tricked out LED's (which are soooo sweet) i would totally dedicate this awesome tank to 100% sweet ass zoas IMO.....they would look soooo sweet in there, especially with the loook down from the top........
Totally following this thread. Cheers and i look forward to more pics. |

Thanks! I am definitely going for the Zoa's. I have 7 different types at the moment, and it will grow soon enough! |

hi, i have a question..... does the waterfall from overflow make a lot of noise????
thanks |
No, no noise at all. I have an egg crate rack for filter floss at the top of the overflow. So it hits that before the water in the overflow.
|
This has to be one of my favorite Edges, I really like seeing them sumped and looking sharp.

Well thank you! I really need to get some updated pictures. I moved the rocks around a bit and my Birdsnest frag has doubled in size. |
