Wow...looks good. Really didn't expect you to have the pics I was requesting. I would love to see a better shot of the cabinet around the tank too.

Everything looks happy...how long have they been moved over?

The Grizz 01-04-2012 11:50 PM

Look at Birch as well, very nice smooth wood grain, stains nicely and is a little cheaper then Oak or Maple. That is unles you have a connection at the lumber store for a sweet discount

Thanks. its hasn't been long at all, 3 days. :twised: I stayed up till 4:30am just to finish all the aquascape and transfered all the coral on a school night. I mean I had to work the next day.

lockrookie 01-05-2012 01:19 AM

birch is very close to maple in fact ive used birch plywood when run out of maple and you can't tell the difference.

Lance 01-05-2012 01:20 AM

:thumb::thumb::thumb: I APPROVE THIS BUILD!

Parker 01-05-2012 01:22 AM

I love these wide tanks!

Nano 01-05-2012 01:33 AM

I'm really digging the aquascape, perhaps a future TOTM

Myka 01-05-2012 01:49 AM

Is that Jeff in your pic? If so I recognize the look he's giving the camera, but I hardly recognize him - haven't seen him in ~5 years.

Sorry to hear the move didn't go so well. Having the replace the tank into the same spot is really not a fun thing to have to deal with, usually ends in losses. I hope everything perks back up for you. Can't wait to see pics of the 300DD running! :D

I think I saw some maple sheets for sale at Rona, I can't imagine it being that expensive. The only problem I see me running into is maybe human error on fabing the skin and having to re-make it. Now that could get expensive. The more I think about it, the more I am leaning towards getting a profession al to make it for me. We will see how it goes. Thanks for the heads up.

Check Windsor plywood if you have one near you, sometimes they have good deals, I picked up some sheets of pre finished 3/4" birch for $29 a sheet last year, saves time finishing and they have matching iron on edge banding to cover the plywood edge, you could make yourself a couple finished panels in an afternoon, Lee Valley tools has the rare earth magnets to attach the panels to your stand as well.

Ya, that's Jeff. I don't think I could've done it without his help. Most of my buds are more bronze than brain. Jeff delegated everyone's responsibilities. I don't think you can find too many guys or gals to come over on boxing day to help you move a 300 gallon tank with getting paid.

I am down to 3 fishes out of 16, my yellow tang that has been with me since the start is still fighting for life! The absolute worth part is I can't do anything. All I can do is feed him good food with garlic and vitamin and hope for the best.

Btw the 300 is up and running. See the last picture post.:surprise:

Just want to give a little update on the tank. Few issues has surfaced. I had a brand new Dart pump which was purchased through BRS, unfortunately it was over milled and it had 2 tiny pin holes on the head unit which caused it to leak. Upon contacting Chris Reefflo he promptly sent out a replacement piece for me. Chris was a pleasure to deal with and even though it was during the holiday season and Reefflo was closed during that week he still answered my emails. It's companies like that who stands behind there products and are willing to take care there customers regardless of before or after sale which gives me the confidence to purchase another product from Reefflo or refer it to another reefer. I did use 2 part epoxy to seal it for the time being, besides that the pump was a bit loud when I first fired up but has since quite down a fair bit I am very happy with the performance.
Here are some pictures of defective part.
http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...s/a1b89d0f.jpg
2 wet spots is where the pin holes are.

Second issue was with AI lights, out of the 9 I got, one of them doesn't want to be controlled. I tried a few different methods, even plugged the unit straight into the controller and it still doesn't dim. I called the LFS where I purchased the units from but turned out I had to contact AI direct. I have to say its rather annoying that you as a customer have to deal with the manufacture direct but in the end it was again a positive experience out of a bad situation. In defence of the LFS, they did email there supplier and that was the answer he got back from him to contact AI direct. So I emailed AI and was promptly replied. AI told me that it could be a cold weld on the chip, they apologized about the inconvenience, the new part will be shiped out the very same day.
I did take the AI apart just to see what it looks like. Not much to it really.

Sunday day time I had a chance to hit HD for some wood and trim pieces for the skin. Man oh man I should have just paid some one to do it. Almost 3 hundred bucks later I have picked up every thing I need. I really hope that I don't f-it up, measure once cut twice. I hope I don't end up on canada's worst handy man.

I was gonna just paint it black, but now.... white would be pretty cool... I saw a redsea max unit that was white, it definitely look more modern. We will have to see what the commander (wife) has to say about that.
