Ya, it has a blanket over it in the garage. That's this fall's project. I have other things on the go right now. Gotta build a stand - will match the kitchen cabinets I'm making.

The "Honey Do" list consists of: install windows (done), finish fish room (halfway there), paint exterior of house, install new roof, jack hammer old deck out and build new wood one, build new kitchen cabinets, build a matching tank stand...oh the list goes on! Guess who "Honey" is? Ya, that's me. The other Honey works all the time...to pay for the "Honey Do" list! ;)

I am soooooo not a mechanic! I'm good at finding shorts in the wiring though. The gift of driving a logging truck for a year and a half.

But ya! I will come over and pass tools (I actually know the names lol), and watch you fix it.

Look for it to come out as a Subaru or Scion here while being called a Celica on the other side of the pond.

Boxer 4 cylinder...ie. cramped motor.

Yup and when you upgrade the downpipe and catback on those WRX STi to a 3" you pick up 20 hp there alone.

Too bad I'm a domestic guy. Daily driver is a Lexus IS350 but otherwise I'm all about Camaros.

If you're ever in Winnipeg drop me a line. :)

Uhm...I'm installing a tank in my trunk. Instead of powerheads I'm using two 12" subs with a 600 watt amp. :p

Include some pics or at least have dave do a sketchup and i'll allow it.

riceboy 08-03-2011 08:41 PM

Hmmm I might have to get you to do a custom 3" exhaust on my car going from a resignator back lol. The 3" downpipe to a 2 1/4" exhaust is really hurting my power curve right now lol.

lastlight 08-03-2011 08:42 PM

Ok I give up. Dave when the glass arrives pm me and Il'l be there haha.

Gripenfelter 08-04-2011 03:14 PM

BTW, if you see a red Lexus IS350 with Manitoba plates in Edmonton and Calgary between Aug 17-Aug 21...that's me. :)

dave_C 08-16-2011 03:24 PM

so a little update for you guys

will be stepping up the time line on this build to the start of sept

big lesson learnt last night, came home from my trip up to edmonton late sunday never check my tank. want to work, never check the tank got home last night power was off. turned everything back on, all fish are now died and all corals looks half died. the temp had dropped to 66 degrees so it must had to been out for more then 12 hours.

one of two thing will be installed into the new tank
1) come up with a way to install a backup to ran everything if the fuse pops again
2) come up with a way keep power to my damn controller so it can notify me when power goes out

or do both!!!!!

anyways after this little incident i have decide to have my other company go in, install a new sub panel to my fuse box for the fish room and beef the electrical wiring in the basement. i have three 15 amp circuits to the current tank, so the new tank i think i will have go with 8 15 amp circuits
circuit 1) lights/lights for quarantine tank 1
circuit 2) lights/ pump for quarantine tank 1
circuit 3) heaters/ lights for quarantine tank 2
circuit 4) heaters/ pump for quarantine tank 2
circuit 5) skimmer/return pump
circuit 6) power heads/ ato and mixing tanks
circuit 7) controller/ pumps for media reactors
circuit 8) exhaust fans/misc things
this way if any fuse blow the tanks still should be ok for a while i think

one last thing, since i have no clue as what cause the fuse to blow(worked five years with out problems) and it now has been running fine for the last 10 hours, not a single piece of the current equipment will see the day of light again once this tank shuts down. Ok now i am done with my little rant, damn this hobby sucks some times

oh since i am depress this morning i decide to set up 120 gallon tank at my office today to keep me occupied until the new tanks starts:redface: i will post some pics once i clean out what i stuff in here

thanks Dave

riceboy 08-16-2011 03:30 PM

**** that sucks dude. Hopefully everything turns around for you

lastlight 08-16-2011 03:47 PM

Sorry to hear that Dave that is a lot of loss in one go =( If there's anything I can do to help just let me know.

dave_C 08-16-2011 04:15 PM

thanks guys

but you know me, either one of two things will happen when i get home

a) i go home tonight and start the clean up
b) the sledgehammer comes out

i am feel ok right now, but have not actually seen what the tank looks like yet as it was very cloudy last night

Brett i will call you if i need help with the sledgehammer tonight:redface:

fishytime 08-16-2011 04:21 PM

http://i938.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_0164.jpg

i think i will use the one as a high end cherry picked sps tank

Delphinus 08-16-2011 04:54 PM

Ouch..

It's funny (well .. funny/interesting not funny/ha-ha) how that always seems to go. The few times I had phantom trips where I did end up losing livestock where always the times that due to one thing or another, they ended up being longer because I didn't think to check for running status when coming home and having to step out again or I had to work late because some project manager was having a dicky fit about something or another or etc. etc. etc. My current setup is now load split amongst 4 circuits so if any one of them goes, there is still most of the others still running. Even still that's no magic bullet. A controller with battery backup is probably the safest option, even still I'm sure it's not 100% but the best we can do is hedge our bets I guess.

Coleus 08-16-2011 06:31 PM

ouch. Sorry to hear man! Yeah this hobby really sucks sometimes.

DiverDude 08-16-2011 08:02 PM

Dave, tell me more about this glass/polyethelene hybrid thing. You've piqued my curiosity. Love the drop-off idea.....

Cugio 08-16-2011 11:00 PM

Sorry to hear that Dave. Maybe you should install a UPS battery backup to your controller. I have a APC unit on my digital aquatics unit and it (the ups) sends me an email should the power go off and it be running on battery power. The unit can also send you an email when the power has been restored accordingly.

Your high end SPS tank sounds nice.

cathyg_99 08-17-2011 05:08 AM

just curious what the gallons would be on that?

philg3 08-17-2011 09:22 AM

Read through the whole thread only to end off with terrible news. I guess the only consolation here is that you were already moving ahead on this epic Man Cave. Keep it moving, this setup is very unique and I cant wait to see it come together.
In the immortal words of Journey... DONT STOP BELIEVING!

i think it is just under 1100 gallons, it will all depend on how i end up doing the drop off section

thanks

That really sucks

My GFCI kept tripping radomly for months took me forever to figure it out. Eventually I discovered a faulty heater that I hadn't realized was plugged in. Since I've removed the heater everything's been running smoothly.

Thank-fully I was running a small Nova battery back up unit (got it at Canadian tire) so it kept a few power heads running for water movement and luckily the tank temp never dropped to much before I would notice.

Gripenfelter 08-22-2011 02:12 PM

Shitty dude.

My power also went out while I was in Edmonton last week. Lost an anemone. I have a UPS but it died after a couple of hours.

All fish are still ok.
