I see you ended up with a hardtail. Nice lookin' bike there Chris.

P.S. Can mom and dad cover my 1st 1k on a new bike too?:lol:
You got some good 'rents there Chris!!

Funky_Fish14 07-24-2010 10:41 PM

Yeah... I just had to get it done and ended up going new... you get better components that way anyways, and I like my 1 year warrenty :) Haha. The 'next' upgrade (that I hope to do ASAP, as soon as I can get some cash) is get a Devinci Moonracer full-suspension frame, since many of the components are similar or identical. Then I can use the hard-tail frame to build a second 'back-up'/hardtail bike from it.

Yes, my parents are pretty cool :) Part of the reason for getting a new bike is so that I ride it the 5-10 min ride to and from uni every day rather than driving my gas-guzzler SUV... which will hopefully save the cost of the bike in fuel.

Brett... yep, cant wait! Haha.

Thanks guys.

Chris

Delphinus 07-25-2010 08:52 PM

Nice snag. I <3 my Devinci (my DH bike is a Devinci).

So when you coming down so we can go riding Chris?? :)

Funky_Fish14 07-26-2010 12:02 AM

Thanks Tony!

Will see what I can do! Definitely would be fun!
Would love to go for a rip with anyone who is interested btw!

Gah... Im giddy to get on this thing, haha. :)

Funky_Fish14 08-15-2010 10:09 PM

3 weeks 1 day later, and I finally have it!

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...4/Devinci2.jpg

The bike is terrific but it makes a squeaking sound on left-foot downstroke already. And had a big scrape on the front of the frame I noticed after I took it home (which i did not inflict). Arrg.

Riding it is great. I cant wait to hit some trails!

Cheers,

Chris

lastlight 08-16-2010 01:49 AM

That's one sexy hog. I'd love to hop on something like that but I'm not fit enough to get a leg up on it.

Funky_Fish14 08-16-2010 06:17 AM

Thanks Brett.

Haha oh god am I 'out of shape' when it comes to cycling! Not only have I lost any cycling stamina (since I havent owned a ridable bicycle for 6 years) but I've also lost all skill at jumps/drops etc... It sucks haha. I had trouble riding without holding the handlebars. I got tired SO fast! And yet.... I ride a unicycle like nobody's business... can ride for a couple hours, do plenty of drops/jumps etc... and there are no handlebars... haha. I feel embarrassed riding my bike.

Delphinus 08-16-2010 06:38 AM

Chris you look positively .. um ... I'm not sure how to put it. I think you may need to eat more. You look like a friggin 2x4 next to that bike.

On a more serious note, you'd think that unicyling would transfer back to bicycling more so than the other way around. Have you tried not juggling for a little bit while you find your bike feet? And don't wait too long to install that honka-honka horn.

Funky_Fish14 08-16-2010 07:02 PM

Haha Tony. Actually im not a big guy anyways (PS. thats a 1x4 :P)

Im a trials/mountain unicyclist rather than a circus guy. I can juggle about as well as the average person. I can get 3 objects in the air and miss catching all of them on the way back down

Funky_Fish14 08-16-2010 07:03 PM

And yeah im surprised my legs get so tired. You have to push a lot harder on hills and stuff and more leg strength when you jump (plus no suspension on a uni). Weird.

Delphinus 08-16-2010 07:45 PM

I know - I was actually being polite because a dude telling another dude he looks as skinny as a 1x4 is against the code. 2x4 however on the other hand is a legitimate way of saying "you need to eat more." The manorexic look is so Orlando Bloom 2004ish Pirates of Caribbeanish. Although that dude looked positively fat next to Keira Knightly in that movie. OOOHHH. Dude, is that Keira Knightly next to your bike? She's hot. A little thin, but hot. Dang dude, you da man. I'm in awe!!!!! I take it all back!!!

muck 08-16-2010 08:15 PM

Geez Tony... what was in your PHO today?!?!:lol:

Funky_Fish14 08-18-2010 05:11 PM

Haha... Wow Tony. Im not even sure how to respond to that one!

Going to be getting a new seat today. My skinny rear hurts on hard seats like that.

muck 08-18-2010 05:13 PM

You just gotta condition your ass bones Chris...:lol:

lastlight 08-18-2010 06:59 PM

Ryan while I try and never combine those two words in the same sentence I do understand what you're getting at.

Funky_Fish14 08-19-2010 12:41 AM

Hahaha.

And Ryan thats what i've been told by a couple place... I dont want it to be reality though haha. I guess biking should make me develop ass muscle which = padding? Baha.

Funky_Fish14 08-19-2010 02:01 AM

I bought the wrong bike... haha.

(Naw just kidding!) but.... I just went for a 14km road ride (country road... no traffic, I would die in traffic. Do not trust cars)...

Ride of my freaking life! And I was pushing myself as hard as I could. I've never felt better after a bike ride...!

Dont get me wrong I love mountain biking(XC/Trail) but I never knew road biking was so good! This is my second road bike ride... I did 8.4km the first time... that was good too but I really pushed on this one and it was a longer ride. Loved it.

muck 08-19-2010 07:48 PM

Nice...road biking is great.
My last ride was 62km of glorious frogger throughout Edmonton on Sunday afternoon.

cale262 08-19-2010 08:25 PM

Mtnbkn is kewl but road riding is where it's at...:peep:

Delphinus 08-19-2010 10:47 PM

I can't help but notice that the 3 of you pining away about how much gooder road biking is are all around Edmonton. Geez, don't you guys have any decent mountain bike trails up there? Maybe THAT's the real problem. "Flat" = "might as well be pavement" and "Might as well be pavement" = "Might as well road bike and enjoy some speed with skinny tires."

I actually don't doubt at all I'd enjoy road biking but the whole "must share a road with cars and trucks" thing is.. well .. I think I've covered this before. The ground hurts when you fall on it but it hurts in predictable ways. The devil you know vs the devil you don't know, sort of thing.

Kien and I just whipped out 10km of some wicked singletrack over lunchtime. I hurt right now ... but it's a good pain!!

Offer stands guys ... bring the mountain bikes with you the next time you come on down this way and we'll find some trails to shred up. And if I ever GET a road bike (I am assuming my 1982 Apollo 10 speed, although it LOOKS like a road bike, technically isn't) then maybe I'll try drafting behind one of you folks.

:)

Mountain biking is great, I love it. I grew up in Calgary racing road and mountain (XC) but the real key to being a better mountain biker is to get a road bike...Just ask Ryder Hesjedal:wink:

Here's my two favorite rides...

Just for the record I have no interest in biking at all....the only reason I clicked on the thread was because I thought it said "Getting into a bikini" ....my bad

Delphinus 08-20-2010 05:30 AM

I like the CO2 cylinder in the back.

Sweet bikes. I can at least appreciate the shininess of the road bike :p Still not my thing, but, it is nice and shiny. :)

You know...I clicked on the link and somehow I was hoping to see some bikinis. Ah well.

Funky_Fish14 08-20-2010 09:15 AM

Ryan - 62km, nice! I guess 40+KM is a pretty average amount for road biking. But my bike is not a road bike, and I haven't owned a rideable bike for 6 years! I'll get up there, haha.

Hey im not dismissing mountain biking! I LOVE it! I just never knew I liked road biking too! (And bikinis, since that seems to be how the thread is going, haha).

Tony, I may have to come down there soon. Need somewhere good to ride. I think the trails ARE pretty limited around here. And yeah road biking in the city? No way, that would be the end of me.

sitandwatch 08-20-2010 06:56 PM

I'm a roadie also can't find the cash for a moutain bike at this time.

@Delphinus, if you can keep up you can draft all you like

I've seen people use them,...I just didn't know what they were called

Delphinus 08-20-2010 08:18 PM

What's cornering like on that? Do the back wheels articulate so you can lean if you need to?

PS. I can keep up to anything so long as I get to sit in a bike trailer attached to your bike. HAHA so there! I declare myself the victor in this "road biking is so much better than mountain biking" war! Geeze you guys. How about this: Start a new thread about road biking and all about how awesome it is, so that other people can chime in about how much more awesomer it is to knit, or crochet, or go windsurfing or kiteboarding.

:p :p :p

sitandwatch 08-20-2010 09:07 PM

It corners flat, I've had one up on two wheels and flipped one, I just lean with my upper body to counter.

If you would like to donate to the "buy Brian a mountain bike" fund I only need about $10,000, I would love to rip up some off road.
http://www.oneoffhandcycle.com/index.html

Oh and the tread name is "Getting in to Biking" so I think road bikes count

Delphinus 08-20-2010 09:19 PM

I've seen guys doing DH runs at Whistler on those. Incredible stuff.

PS. Yeah, it IS named biking but he MEANT mountain biking. Just because even the original poster tried to steer it into road biking doesn't make it right. He is young and misguided and dating a 1x4 fence post for goodness sakes. You can't go by THAT.

Oh FINE whatever. I no longer declare myself the victor. You roadies come here and gloat all you want. I give up. But if there is EVER a road biking thread don't get all surprised when people come pee on it with stuff like "sitting on a beach is WAY better than road biking" and "I like martinis" and "boy that Starcraft game is something else, have you tried the Konami code on it yet? Let's see you try Konami codes on road bikes!"

:p !!!

ME thinks the cycling world needs ta git together...I'm not a Roadie...I'm not a Chucker...I'm not a Tri-geek,...I Am a Cyclist.

muck 08-20-2010 10:24 PM

While i prefer my road bike I do love me a good trail on my XC bike too.

I don't know why this has to be a one or the other thread... ya Im looking at you Tony.:mrgreen::razz:

Delphinus 08-20-2010 11:58 PM

Words, just words... Have you even ridden your XC bike yet this year Ryan? I seem to recall you bought it, then rode it like twice and it's been rusting away all sadly from under use ever since. Dude - I think can hear your bike from here even. "Ryan.. why hast thou forsaken me. Please come back. I know Edmonton sucks but we can make it suck less by riding singletrack!" Come on man, your mountain bike is sad! Make it happy again. Enough playing with traffic. Get out there, or at least go find yourself a nice 1x4 to park against!

Hope you ROADIES are realizing I am kidding around. Pedal power rulez. Whatever your preferred mode is.

I'm outta here, off to a land of no internet for a few days. I might even go TRAIL riding. So I'm not purposely ignoring any further taunts, just a happy coincidence.

Funky_Fish14 08-21-2010 08:24 AM

Hah! Tony I think your just jealous of my Kiera Knightly fencepost girlfriend and my two 'prized possessions' in one picture together! Hahaha.

I was away from the forum all weekend too Tony so just saw this...

I actually take my XC bike out just about every Wednesday with some buds and hit some trails around the city. May not be up to par with your C-Town trails but its still loads of fun as well. What you are actually hearing is the bike whining it needs to be cleaned as it got a little muddy last week and i haven't cleaned it yet.
