Awesome Derasa Dez! I have never seen one that color before, online or in store. How long ago did you get that one?

Dez 06-09-2010 07:09 PM

I bought it quite a few months ago. I was actually considering getting rid of it cause I'm kinda cramped for space. I bought it from Red Coral in Calgary.

Looks great Doug. Interestingly mine has not really opened since introduction into the tank. :( I'm not sure what's up with that. I don't see anyone harrassing him but on the offchance it is tankmate harassment I ended up moving him to the other tank last night. Only problem with that is the tank he's in now is BB so it was interesting piling up enough rubble around the clam to ensure he stays upright. :(

How long did it take for yours to open up?

Delphinus 11-12-2010 04:53 AM

So I guess it was someone in the tank he didn't like, he looks like this now:

Wee little maxima as one of his neighbours:

Mine was open the next morning.....good that you figured it might have been the tank or someone in the tank making yours un-happy......also good that you had options:biggrin:......they look good Tony!

Myka 11-13-2010 04:50 PM

Wow, some really nice clams! I will take some pics of my two. Need more!!!

-------------------
EDIT:

Ok, here they are. The gold teardrop Maxima photo is from January. The Maxima has turned sideways and is almost impossible to photograph where it is. The Squamosa photo I took like 5 mins ago.

The Grizz 01-23-2011 01:59 AM

Well some one called me a clam whore, not mentioning any names here..............RICK........ so I thought I should post some pic of what I have now. Also figured out that my Valintini Puffer had a little taste for any clam that was blue/purple & has been moved to the FOWLR. The last Crocea that he took a nibble out of is doing better every day but has a hole in its mantel right in the center, hope it will heal up.

Well on with the show....

Bad pic but hard to get all them in the shot from inside the tank

and the others

http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/x...h/eb176b20.png

That last one is the poor little one with the hole in the mantel.

The Grizz 01-23-2011 02:02 AM

Added note anyone that want to rehome a clam give me a shout and send me a pic always looking for more:lol:

Delphinus 01-23-2011 04:30 AM

The one clam on the left in the top photo - looks like it might be a derasa - is gaping on you - if he's a derasa try moving him to the sand. I hate to say it but he's looking really rough at least in that 1st photo - maybe not so bad in that other photo but you might try repositioning him still and see if he perks up a little.

It has been like that since I got it from Rick, no matter where it is. I would have to ask Rick if it was always like that.

bauder1986 01-23-2011 05:28 AM

Had this beauty since i started the hobby! One of the happiest clams I have ever seen.

I absolutely LOVE clams. My first attempt at owning one though, I was not successful.

Thank you for sharing your pics. ~drool~

Any tips for a newbie so I might have a better go at it the second time around? Is any one clam easier than another?

fishytime 07-13-2011 12:37 PM

derasas, squamosas and hippos are considered to be more tolerant of tank conditions......I think some people just try clams too soon in their tanks life.....they really do need a mature, stable tank.......

noirsphynx 09-03-2011 02:01 AM

Well I must admit I'm an addict too. It's been 18 long years... sob... and still going.

This whole clam addiction is actually a vicious circle. First you get a few clams, then a few more, then a few fish to feed the clams ammonia, then a few more clams, then more fish. The cycle never ends... but the good thing is you can throw out the bio pellets and drink the vodka. ;D

Just remember... clams aren't hard on the liver.
