I probably will be down in March and I'll post in this thread or start a new one as soon as I've been able to pick a day to drive.

I really wouldn't worry about the expiry date on them in the least
Didn't read that you had bug's till after I had posted that really is kinda funny as I was thinking that I would be safe getting stuff from a private tank  Maybe I jinxed you  I am sure it will be fine by then. |
Actually there are (at least) two people in PG that currently have red bugs in their private tanks and they are unwilling to treat their systems because they dont want to kill their shrimp. Lucky for me because of my snowflake eel I dont have any shrimp or crabs. I originally got them two years ago from a third person in town who is no longer in the hobby. I have no idea where I got them this time because I've been very careful to QT and treat each new SPS addition. They must have hitched a ride with a soft coral, LPS or fish I guess...

It's the fish!
Whatcanyedo,
When I first started keeping marines (way back in 1989 I think), there was no such thing live rock or skimmers avilable to the public. I had an undergravel filter and bleached coral skeleton. One Powder blue Surgeon, one Yellow Tang and 3 Blue Damsels. When I was cleaning the coral (bleaching it ..... yes I know everyone is cringing now, but back then it was Fish only and mechanical filtration, no corals). Anyway I lifted the coral and out fell these little "half moon" shaped shrimps. (Isopods I think) I immediately called the LFS and asked what to do. He replied that if I gave him a big bag of my sand, he's give me ANY fish in the shop. Apparently the eggs came in in one of the fish (I reckon PBS) and bred like wildfire! He was the first to set up live sand and actually sell these Iso's in Scotland apparently! Just a little anecdote ...... Kenny |
Monthly bump. My LPS selection still pales in comparison to my SPS and softies because my frag tank is still pretty full and most of the LPS need time to grow before I can frag them again.
The 3 red bug treatments are complete and there are no more of the little buggers to be found. I haven't noticed much of an improvement in the colors of the previously infected corals but at least the polyps seem much larger. I've been hording shipping boxes and coolers from various livestock orders in town because in the spring I think I'm going to try shipping for the first time. However expect some of my asking prices to go up a little bit when that happens (supply and demand). I'll also start listing quantities available as I'm sure some coral will be more in demand than others and I cant produce a lot of volume at this time. |
If your gonna be shipping count me in!! You have few drags I would love to add to my tank!
Cheers Ray |
Monthly bump.

I was just accepted into a course that will keep me busy until March 28th. If I dont start work right away after that I'll be traveling down to Victoria for a couple of days but if I do start working I might not have much free time for a while... So, for people waiting and hoping for me to be making a spring delivery to the lower mainland that may not be happening. However I still plan to start shipping in the spring so I'll keep this thread up to date with information on that.
|
You don't travel through Kelowna on your way do you?
|
Sorry I never go that way.
|
waiting patiently for this shipping thing to start
|
Next time I am home I am totally looking you up!! No need to ship...I will pack and fly with them when I leave! Start Fragging for the summer!
|
Monthly bump. The first post has been updated.

When would you be making a trip down to Vancouver again? I'm interested in some Acans and Acro's.

I'm getting a bit of an onslaught of PMs so perhaps I should provide a little more information.
I want to drive down through Vancouver to Victoria for a few days in the first week of April. If I do so I'll be able to deliver my inexpensive frags like Santa Clause to people along the way like I did back in August. However I may have an offer for work around that same time that I cannot turn down. By the last week of March I should have a pretty good indication of whats going to happen so at that time I will make up a new list including actual quantities of what I have (or can produce) for people to choose from. If I dont make it down I will likely be bursting at the seams and have to ship a few packages of frags out in order to get rid of them (local demand kind of sucks). However I'm still pretty apprehensive about shipping. I dont have much faith in UPS or the airlines and I dont make any money off of this to begin with (selling frags covers most of my tank maintenance costs but not all) so it all just means more time and work... |
Wow, finally. Ive been looking for canadian based forums and to find one with interior bc forums. jackpot. So you must be the "russell" i keep hearing about when talking salt. Im definitly interested in some frags, i just got into the saltwater side and impressed with how much more there is available for this side of the hobby. Pm me with whens good for you to talk corals so i can "support your tank maintenance fund". Thanks!

Welcome to canreef! HAHA I got to say it for once! PM sent.
|
Interested in the Oulophyllia.

A big thanks to those people who lightened my load and took some frags from me on this trip though the lower mainland. If anyone reading this would like me to contact them before I come down again send me a PM and I'll add you to my list as well.
I'm planning to move in the fall of this year so I am trying to downsize the amount of coral that I have. So some types I'll be selling off entirely rather than constantly fragging them. I'll begin to update my list and pictures to reflect this. |
I've been trying to reduce the variety of coral that I have so some species are gone for good now. I've changed my pictures and listing strategy to reflect this.
I'll be in Rosedale on Saturday May 8th all day if anyone would like to come out and get some frags from me. My first post has been updated to show what I currently have available. |
PM sent, please check.
|
Sent a PM too.
Cheers :) |
Monthly bump. The first post in this thread has been updated once more to show the frags I have available. I'm pretty full at the moment but everything still fits.

Your stuff was great last month :)
If you're coming down to the 'Wack again I'd like to get some Monti caps (green and red), blue zoas and a pavona (and if no_bs defaults on the acans those too). Let me know. Cheers, Matt |
I was almost able to come down next week but I think I have an opportunity to make some money working and I have to baby sit a bunch of delinquent dogs... so unfortunately I'm stuck at the moment.
|
Any pics of zoos for sale and how much for the green/red brain? Edit; never mind went to first post. Have all those zoos except the blue ones. Any chance of getting them?
|
Just tagging this thread because I really like you SPS and would love some frags next time your down
|
I've got a new frag disk of the blue ones underway. They should be attached on their own and forming new polyps in about two weeks. They're a little more difficult to frag because I have to cut each polyp off one at a time and then glue them down (same as the solid green ones). The other types grow long stalks and form clusters which are easy to just pull off and then elastic down.
|
Ok so can you put me on the list when they are ready?
|
Thanks for the shipment. Corals arrived happy and now doing great in my tank. For anyone who hasn't bought from Russell before, let me say the frags he sells are well worth the money, and he ships them extremely well packed and warm..mine arrived and I think the corals thought they were still in their tank, they were open and the water temp was still really warm. Looking forward to getting more in the future.

Glad to hear that everything arrived in good health and that Greyhound didn't screw anything up. I'll keep doing what I do and hopefully every shipment will go as smooth as ours did.
|
Greyhound from PG to hear isn't that bad, it arrives the next morning in good condition, pm sent!
|
Local guy so don't know about his shipping. But with the way he is, I would assume he is pretty anal (in a good way) in the way he packages and ships. But I must say that his frags are really nice and healthy and if he says he's keeping something for someone he sticks to his word. Some are more like little colonies rather than frags.
|
Thanks
Just received my shipment from Russell and things were excellent. Had them shipped via greyhound, arrived in excellent shape. All the comments about Russell's frags and his shipping methods are true as well as the comments about his holding items for people. Never met Russell other then to talk to him through Canreef, and have to say he is a man of his word. Thanks again.
|
Thank you all for the kind words. I feel like I should be trying to type up an acceptance speech or something after all of this praise.
Shipping coral is not something that I like to do and if I could get rid of everything I grow locally I would. So thank you all for being patient and understanding while I figure this out. So far so good, I've sent out 5 packages without any problems (at your end). However I have spilled a lot of water on myself lately... note to self: Petland fish bags are absolute garbage. I'll continue to ship as long as my supplies last and as long as my coral growth can keep up with demand. If it gets to the point where I simply do not want to frag anything further or I can no longer find cooler/box combos to use I'll take a break for a while. |
