Neal--I would get a refund from the postal service if I were you. I've sent things ExpressPost before, and they didn't arrive on time, and got a full refund on the cost of shipping.

Was the box marked "LIVESTOCK" or "PERISHABLE"?

Delphinus 12-23-2006 07:41 PM

So we still have nothing (It's now Saturday afternoon)?? Oh great, I'm getting a bunch of dead snails then. Yay. Glad I stopped short of ordering the peppermints, I almost did. :( Poor things.

JOSH 12-23-2006 07:46 PM

yup still nothing

OCDP 12-23-2006 07:53 PM

I think this will chalk up to be a good learning experience. I had bad luck with Greyhound, etc, or should I say, we had bad luck during Thanksgiving, our packages were delayed/late/mixed up , etc, etc... so, to order at Christmas time, I can imagine things are 10x crazier.

Sucks that all this livestock might die. Hope things arrive okay, good luck dudes. Happy holidays.

oh man..30 snails and 20 crabs....hope they are ok, if the box is inside somewhere they might make iti..i hope...:(

adidas 12-23-2006 08:41 PM

josh, maybe you should go to your local outlet and have theem look for it in the back?

Der_Iron_Chef 12-23-2006 11:47 PM

Just picked up my frag from JOSH. Floating it right now, so we'll see. I think some of the polyps have detached, so....who knows.

JOSH 12-24-2006 01:31 AM

everything is good on my end, most of the zoos are starting to open, the snails are moving
i just hope these zoos regain some color

also got two weird anemone hichhikers, im trying to get a pic for an ID

Der_Iron_Chef 12-24-2006 02:01 AM

My zoos are starting to open, too. I've tried to secure the ones that have detached, but not sure yet.

I also got a hitchhiker, which I'm pretty sure is a baby brittle starfish. Kinda cute

adidas 12-24-2006 02:56 AM

looks like my guys did ok, only lost 2 crabs and 1 snail

howdy20012002 12-24-2006 03:08 AM

I am glad to hear that things aren't that bad
Must have been the high quality stuff I sell..lol..jk
anyways, just let me know what the losses are.
thanks again for the order and I am sorry that the order got so messed up
Neal

how are peoples zoo;s doing? on my frags only a couple zoos open, might just need more time

Delphinus 12-27-2006 02:13 AM

Only got one frag this time - but it's doing OK. A couple polyps look a little iffy but there are a few that are open and fine. I'll try to post a pic later. I'm happy with the zoos and the ceriths. The ceriths are apparently way hardier than the turbos. None of the turbos made it, I pulled the last 2 stink bombs out of the tank today.

JOSH 12-27-2006 04:22 AM

yeah i figured the turbos were toast

adidas 12-27-2006 05:50 PM

my Astrea snails are doing great...

Der_Iron_Chef 12-28-2006 12:29 AM

Almost all the zoos on my frag have opened, although they look a lot different than they did in howdy's pic! It's no doubt due to the stress of shipping, and perhaps I have a different lighting set-up.

The pics indicated a bluish centre with red tentacles. As you can see in the smaller pic in the upper-right of the picture below, there are faint spots of blue. But they're very faint! And the tentacles are more of a peachy-orange.

Hopefully they'll colour up over time. Either way...thanks for the product, howdy.

Drew, I know I didn't take part in the order, but thought I'd toss out my two cents here. I have ordered lots of zoos from online, and through howdy even. I would definitely say the loss in colour is from stress, and different lighting conditions. I have recieved many zoo frags like this, and every time they have bounced back with time.

Just my two cents, sucks that it happened, but I'm confident they'll recover. You can see the colour resemblence (sp?) in both photos, so time will heal this one. I'm a zoo freak lately and that's all my tank is becoming, they definitely are one of the best/easiest and most colourful corals to keep, IMO.

I spray new frags with a turkey blaster with reef roids in it. It seems to give them momentary color, i've always found the ones that respond within an hour or so (it' only briefly mind you at first) are the ones that will do a nice recovery. But i've yet to date ever had anything that looked like the picture i based my purchase on.
