It's been awhile since I last updated, I found it hard dripping alk in daily and keeping the parameters in check. I hooked up a jebao doser, it was simple to calibrate and input even tho there was a lot of button pushing. I've been testing my alk every 2-3 days to make sure I am dosing enough.
As of yesterday my results are... Alk 6.8 Ca 410 Mg 1320 I have also been feeding my tank 4 times a day.... as I mentioned before my tank is on a reverse light cycle from 4pm till 5am it gives me time to achieve the amount of feeding I have set in place. At 430-5pm my tank gets nori, at 8-10pm pellets then before bed usually between 12-2 home made food which is rich in secret ingriedients like the papone mixture. If you notice that's only 3 feeding the last one is done during the day at around 12pm when the tank is asleep, sps and Lps have all feeders out I will feed the home made food with reef roids 3 times a week, the other days gets reef roids coral food and phyto gold s and zoo plankton, amino, koral kolor, iodion and brine. I believe this feeding regimen will achieve a healthy fish and coral base also help boost life in the rocks. I have to test my nitrate and phosphate levels as it's been 3 weeks since I last tested which the results were very low. I will also be adding a brightwells bio brick soon as I was originally going to do siporax but with the lack of space in my sump a couple bricks may be the best alternative. I added a few berghia to take care of nusiance aptaisia which they have almost irradiated in less than 3 days. I added a clam last week, while it's not as nice as the clams I have owned in the past clams are harder and harder to find these days, also they come with a hefty price tag so owning one is better than none. My tank is currently full of frags as I've been busy collecting, I will be stopping soon I hope....😜 Here are some pics of my tank taken yesterday. http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o...y/IMG_3052.jpg |
Got some add ons to my lighting rig, I've added 2 A360 tuna blue and what a difference it's made to the corals, all the Lps and sps just perked up, even the clams.

That's a really cool looking setup bud, probably going to be amazing once the frags grow out a tiny bit.
What are you using for nutrient export? I see you're feeding quite a bit. Sorry if you already mentioned it. Will the scoly be okay on its side like that? it looks awesome. |
Awesome build.........I checked all the posts and cannot determine how big this cube is. How big is this thing?😉

I will be upgrading my skimmer before adding any more lighting.... I also think I forgot to add that I have a 50w led flood light on the side about 4' away from my tank. |
I will have to come and check it out soon, I got my setup moved on Friday ... Everything is alive so far.

It's been over a month since my last update, not much has changed except I added a few new fish to fill the tank, I also switched salts to AF Probiotic.
Too soon to tell as I am still doing biweekly WC at 5g. My last test for Ca was overdue as I tend to monster alk closely. I was surprised to see that ca was sitting at 360 so I upped the doser to do 14x per day vs 12 and also bumped up the dosing to 9ml from 7. Hoping this will slowly raise the Ca back to 4fiddy or around that range. I also added a bio brick to the sump and installed a gate valve with water cascading over the dimples of the brick, it's been running for 2 weeks now and hoping it will be fully operational by New Years. With the colder weather I added a 500w titanium heater, my garage door was insulated but took it off since there was moisture issues. I reckon the electricity bill will rise now since the garage feels like 12c. |
Well off into the new year, and the snow has subsided. Over 2 months since my last update... I have made a few mistakes that was costly, I added a striped hawkfish that killed a Sulawesi basket and near blinded my yellow watchmen. I've relocated the yellow watchmen to the sump where it resides with more corals and thankfully has made a quick recovery.
The big 3 has been stable and mostly on autopilot with the dosing. Alk 8.5 Ca 430 Mg 1400 my po4 has bounced abit so I am still tweaking the rowaphos outflow and feeding heavy as I always do, nitrates are below 4 and sometimes untraceable. I had a bryopsis problem that I took care of quickly with some fluco meds and also used some Vibrant to deal with a bubble algae outbreak. Since dosing both I've done 2 30g wc on top of my regular 10g per week WC. Added a bunch of new corals which includes an orange frogspawn gold anchor gold hammer and a bunch more sps frags. http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o...y/IMG_3998.jpg |

The orange thing above the yellow zoas is a montipora setosa, fairly cheap and abundant now in the hobby but still one of my favourites because of the intense colour. Quote:

I'll see if I can upload a pic of the blasto, it's one of the first pieces in my tank and when I originally bought the coral it was displayed under uv purple light to my amazement the coral has some cool veins that light up crazy under the LEDs. Found it here you go! http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o...52D6D5748C.jpg |
Hey Chris, whats to the right of to montipora setosa?

Looking good...

Nice guy and all but I would be coming back to a half empty tank... big sales in richmond once I left! |
Foto time....
So I recently went for vacation to sunny Cancun and on my short absence had my tank fed lightly 2x a day. When I got back there was algae on the glass and a lot of detritous on the floor. I've spent a total of 8 hrs cleaning the tank sump and feeding this week. Weekly tests are on par but would like to focus on feeding the corals and fish more so my next vacation the tank can sustain less feedings. There seems to also be an imbalance in the tank as I am getting abit of cyano, part of this is due to adding some dry rock that must've leached abit. I will have to change out the rowaphos this weekend and start adding abit more nitrates and also do a 20g wc next week. I purchased a new clam as the other ones didn't make it after dosing fluconezol and vibrant. I am still doing smaller vibrant doses Bi weekly to keep the few bubble algaes left at bay. On a side note the sps are growing like no tommorow, and I've added a green RFA to the collection and lastly a orange gold goni. Sorry for the bad pic but gold and teal clam http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o...y/IMG_4517.png Not a clear pic but green RFA http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o...y/IMG_4217.jpg http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o...y/IMG_4218.jpg Just a random pic of the frag rack with a few new sps and documenting growth on the older stuff. http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o...y/IMG_4216.jpg Lastly a yellow orange gold goni, I burrowed the pic from my buddy Dave as my phone camera sucks. http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o...y/IMG_4518.png |
Time for an update, tank has been on auto pilot for awhile, picked up a bunch of AF stuff. Trying the flourine, energy, vitality, phyto, amino and build.
So far I have been dosing flourine as per recommended from one of my good friends that has seen a shot in his sps in Avery short time, for the cheap price that Jl sells their 10ml bottles I thought why not. I talked to Jeff from JL and aquired some 3 weeks back since the light dosage of only once a week I've noticed my loom put on almost 1/2". I am sold forsure. Other slower pieces has started to take off aswell. A friend shutting down and another starting up I went to pick up some corals for my friend when I saw a piece I couldn't pass up the price was high but I am comfortable paying it as I know it's a show piece. This coral has made a full circle around my friends and now back into my tank. Gotta luv dem rainbows!! http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o...y/IMG_5082.jpg |
Nice! Is that the California Gold Rush zoa frag you got from me bottom right? If so that's some great growth you've had!
|
Thank you bro, I don't see any Zoas in the pic just a red favia with yellow mouth....
|
Need a piece of that sir....please save one for me.
