how are you insulating the pipes? with what? and is that for thermal insulation or acoustic?

btw, great looking build.

Wall plates were used to protect the plumbing and helped to reinforce the studs that were notched out. It is thermal insulation and it is behind the pipes as well.

Thanks Stacey.

I do have the fish room exhausted outside (just a simple dryer vent in a window with a fan/duct work). You can see the hole in the back of the room in the first "drywall/mudding pic".

I will be doing some research on the HRV unit. I believe I should be able to make it work with the existing duct work, but I will have to bring someone in to take a look.

For the time being I will try the dehumidifier/direct exhaust first and if I can't keep my humidity down then I will need to go with a unit more appropriate.

Anyone have any suggestions for a good dehumidifier? (minimum 70 pints), that is energy efficient and dependable (I would imagine it will be running more often the not).

Thanks guys/gals

You should look at an hrv rather than a dehumidifier as they do cost a fair bit more to run than the hrv. I have tried the dehumid route and I'm going hrv as it will pay for itself quicker. Nice build by the way

What do you guys recommend I put on the floor between my 180 (steel stand) and the laminate wood?

I have the dri-core sub floor underneath

Thanks

Basement is looking amazing! 2 tanks at once = either stupid or brilliant:lol:

On a side note, is that where your projector is staying? Seems really low.

This system took a lot of planing. Why would you think two tanks would be stupid???

Projector will be raised up, I just haven't got around to it yet.

Stupid might have been a little strong. Thats just alot of tanks to be setting up at the same time. But I guess its all one big system anyway.

Go big or go home.

DAVE 05-14-2011 08:19 PM

......I also have a third tank being setup on the other side of the room (my 180 FOWLR). Its not connected to the reef system, but it will be in that room

NOW THAT'S STUPID!!!

Thanks guys.

I got a new camera waiting for me at home, so I will take some better photos of the tank and corals when I get back from work this weekend.

Dunno how I missed this thread but love the man cave and build so far, Awesome job!

DAVE 04-13-2012 08:07 PM

Some photos of the recent addition, a 60x36x12 frag tank. It is connected to the main system.

- 250w MH
- x3 mp40's
- VT Battery back up.

I don't have a lot of flow going to this tank since I just tee'd off one of my return pumps, hence the reason for all the VT.

Thanks. It does have a lot of flow, the mp40's are only run at half power. From my experience it is important to have lots of flow to help with algae issues.

GracieLou 04-13-2012 09:53 PM
