Topless baby. DIY LED. Lost one Lawnmower Blenny to carpet surfing. C'est la vie. Don't have any other 'known' jumpers that I'm aware of. Prefer full light & air/gas exchange/evaporation over trying to beam photons thru any kind of material. Potential jumper takes their chances.

Poly mess top for quite a long time now. It seems to have stood the test of time.

I know you said you used one but it didn't work out for you? What was wrong with the one you made? Did it fall apart?

egg crate panels tied with zip ties. Keeps fish from jumping, easy to cut and fit around cords/HOB skimmer/light clamps, can leave open top in center where there's light, like so...

doubled the lights

downside... evaporation, small fish can fit through holes (gobies), not the most attractive

currently open top and loving it! downside is the evaporation and my hand being in the tank all the time these days since it's so easy.

bought the 1/2" clear mesh from BRS for the 400 and never got around to making a cover. bought the 1/4" for my current tank and can't bring myself to cover it either lol.

My plan is to build a parameter wall at my euro brace edge 6" tall. Basically fish will have to jump about 8" at the right angle to escape, I'm betting they can't do that. Seems easier than dealing with a full mesh top plus in the past I've seen some fish jump through nets and then land on top quickly drying out under the lighting.

great idea steve i was going to do that on the 400 with my mesh but i'm just a bit more lazy than creative.

Well it's still just a plan, I haven't done it yet either

Yes exactly - it has completely fallen apart. It was a very terrible job to begin with - hot glue gun to wood........... It was the artful work of my boyfriend who also thought our completely green non transparent tank looked fine.... (You couldn't even see our fish anymore :l Only the lip marks on the glass from the kole tang having a hay-day).
Needless to say - things had to change! lol The tank is now at my house and looking better than ever. I just need a new top :)

I do like the mesh, I like that the light is fully able to penetrate - I'm worried about less light being able to pass through glass or plastic :(

How did you make your mesh top Kien?

I made it like a window screen. You can get all of the window screen materials from your favourite hardware store. However, instead of using the black bug screen, use the clear poly screen instead. This is how I did it.
