This post isn't out to crucify anyone or any place. I understand business needs to make money. I don't mind paying premium for ultra grade corals but knowing how much it should cost in my opinion $30 and with the Canadian dollar dropping possible $50 is perfectly fine, but when the price is excessively high I really wonder why and who is putting the number behind the price? Maybe I am being unreasonable and if I am please some one let me know.
I hang out at the fish store as much as the next reef junkie. I don't get why they will price them so high and watch the coral deteriorate until it's bleached and not worth anything than having an employee try to sell it to you at the price which they should've put it the first place. This happens countless times. It's really a shame.

It came in as red when it was purple now it's brown might be time to invest in some new lighting over the most important tanks or change halides

J&L Aquatics does not specialize in corals though - their corals are mediocre (on the wow factor) at best. To be fair though, red Plates tend to really fade with shipping, and if it IS indeed red it would draw a lot more money than the brownish/purplish color it appears. I'm not sold that it is red though. The photo is terrible. I wouldn't buy it for any price because Plates take up so much sand space I have to really love it to buy it. I think $60-80 is a fair price (I voted $50). I think it's nice, but it's not really nice. If it IS red, $120 is a reasonable price, but for that price it needs a better pic, and some time to color up.

That's the whole thing though Myka, they do bring in nice corals and btw I didn't see the water mark on the pic...oops. It is a green plate not red not purple, just a plain green plate, you can't just slap some fancy name on it and expect to fetch top dollars for the piece. And for those who pay that money and expecting something nice and when it arrives at your house it's just a plain green plate I guarantee you won't feel too thrilled. Like I said, if wasn't for all those dead or dying lps that are wasting away in their tanks I wouldn't feel so bad but at that price it just doesn't move. I know even a plain green plate can thrive and be a nice piece for some newbies tank but it need be at a reasonable price.
Don't get me wrong, I love that store and I wouldn't traded for any other. The dry goods pricing is wicked and the service I get from them is second to none. Unfortunately the live stock side has not been very stellar.

Do you have a brick and mortar store?
