How much are they going to cost? I can't find that little tidbit anywhere...

From an Australian forum, the prices listed are as follows:

Red auxillary module $135.00
Module installation kit $13.00

So they are at Australian $. But very close and almost the same when converted to C$.

Close :)

You're looking at $86.00 for the actual pad and $8.00 for the installation tool.

Wow! Under $100! That's a good deal.

But seriously, I still haven't got the answers on what are the advantages and possible disadvantages of having red spectrum lights on our reef tank.

Does anyone know what wavelengths these red units cover?

Sorry, I had intended to answer that last night at home... But I went and spent the whole night on Game of Thrones :(

Anyway, most of the appeal behind Red LED's has to do with aesthetics. If you're familiar with the Fiji Purple T5 bulb, that's more or less the effect people are after when they add this range of the spectrum to the mix.

If you're not, here's exhibit A:

Before Fiji Purple:

After Fiji Purple (red spectrum):

Before:

After:

One more:

To:

etc, etc...

The only detrimental effect I can think of is a possible increase in algae. This assumes that:

A. The tank has excess nutrients and the addition of red light becomes the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back", or

B. The user is comatose and doesn't crank down the red settings while addressing the excess nutrient issue.

Hope that helps!

That helps a lot! Thanks Albert.

We have these available on our website for pre-order here: Vertex Illumina

We have a couple modules coming for our display tank and we'll post up a nice gallery of images on our blog when they arrive.

Is there a rule for how many reds to a unit? Mine is the 5' I think 10 module 260. I guess the same question for the other colours to.
