Is it just me, or does Vertex have the worst web site ever?

Agreed
Their site is terrible
Doesn't matter what you want to look at; some items old/new are not included
Makes it difficult to make a decision about purchasing

Terrible site. Bad advertising.

Hey, I'm buying a new welding helmet (random thought thread so ... )

WarDog 05-07-2015 06:15 AM

No wonder they lost the war.

Meh... a helmut that expensive isn't worth it IMHO (even $130). I always used cheap ones and had no complaints... but to each his own.

You, my son, have never had to wear prescription glasses behind a helmet long-term, have you ... or have you ?

I'm welding all day long right now, and I mean 8 hours straight. Included is all the smoke/fumes etc. I'm wearing a snorkel setup on my face mask under my helmet, ear plugs because I'm burning 3/8-1/2 welds and comfort/visibility is a MUST. You come hear what I'm welding for a few minutes and you'll agree you need earplugs. Then you'll see the smoke ...

Helmet quality is not something to skimp on in this situation, especially when I'm building bases that support 7-11,000Lbs.
And our Engineering Dept expects our measurements to be withing 1/16"
No wonder so many guys in our Production crew don't want to build bases.

I'm doing OK at it.

Good thing this is just the Random Though Thread or I'd feel bad for posting

Greg, you can get a setup, that fits under a helmet, that has two hoses, that go over the shoulders and end up at just above your belt, on your back where there seldom is smoke. There, there are two canisters that filter the air. The ones I used, filter out not only particles, but all chemicals.
If you need more info let me know

Thanks D
I actually ordered that same setup already
Now I just need to get some very cheap scrip glasses so I don't burn my new scrip safeties. I got some splatter in the helmet yesterday and now have a couple small melted/burnt spots on the inside of them. Luckily they're low enough that I only see them when in sunlight.

You can get prescription inserts for most helmets

spit.fire 05-08-2015 09:06 PM

Also if you rivet leather to the back of the helmet you won't get as much splatter inside your helmet or on the back of your neck

Tyler I replied in my thread

Its amazing how long a 10# co2 tank will last on a calcium reactor without using a low pH shutoff

I guess I should probably test my water some day....

I don't use any shutoff. It lasts a long time. Water looks fine, fish are swimming :)

spit.fire 05-09-2015 06:37 PM

Almost can't keep red planet in a system with a calcium reactor... Looks like it's wanting to take over

Hate that!

input80 05-09-2015 11:48 PM

Thinking of increasing effluent flow to a very slow stream,,,,,, thoughts?

Aquattro 05-10-2015 12:29 AM

Mine runs at a not so slow stream. I may have to slow it down until corals grow. Ca stays good, but alk climbs a bit

spit.fire 05-10-2015 01:15 AM

Mines at an broken stream, just turned it up quite a bit

daplatapus 05-10-2015 04:51 PM

Rule #1 of fish keeping: Never add any fish temporarily to your display that you intend on trying to catch at a later date.

Fuark me!

I always do that. Just drain tank and pick it out. Easy.

Craigdillman 05-10-2015 08:11 PM

Yeah, that's the plan now, lol.

WarDog 05-10-2015 08:41 PM

No3 is high, so I guess draining most of the water could be a good thing.

I normally just put the old water back, but if it's water change day, might as well change it. NO3 isn't a biggie on the list of things to worry about :)

Just finished a 25% w/c. Making new water for the 'big catch' day. Borrowing a 150 gal tub off Rich. What a PITA!

Not too worried about No3, but it is at 10ppm. Would like to get that down a bit. Stupid me added too many fish at once! Want a Naso Brad? I can send him with cookies, lol.

That is all... back to random thoughts.

Spinelessspade 05-13-2015 04:54 AM

Anybody else try Tim Hortons new kind of coffee? Or is it just me

I just can't get enough spicy food lately. I've always liked hot stuff, not stupid hot, but I crave it all the time now. So I'm eating my lunch right now - stirfry vegetables on vermicelli, and I have about a tablespoon of pepper oil on it, and I just sneezed. Pepper oil in the nasal passages ******** hurts.

gobytron 05-13-2015 08:39 PM

I'm thinking about buying a bnb in Sooke...

Say goodbye to evenings and weekends and definitely no more long weekends. Takes a special person to do that.

gregzz4 05-14-2015 03:37 AM

Went through a phase with a buddy back in our twenties where we 'had' to have jalepenos on our nachos, and more on the side.
Not a diet for someone older with 'roids ....

I find the older you get, the hotter they come out then when they went in!

My dad had a stroke today. Most of the day I was in shock. It looks like he is going to be ok I hope. Call your dad tomorrow and thank him .

gregzz4 06-01-2015 07:28 AM

My Dad has had 2 strokes. He's not been the same since his first.
I miss who he used to be in a big way.
I hope your dad recovers ...

input80 06-01-2015 07:53 AM

Sorry to hear that Ian, hope he recovers well.

WarDog 06-01-2015 03:05 PM

Very upsetting news Ian, here's hoping he can make a full recovery!

reef-keeper 06-01-2015 09:00 PM

I know how you feel. I lost my dad a few years back. I find myself saying wish my dad was here I need some advice. The is no one else to ask. Even though I have four brothers, it's not the same.

Myka 06-01-2015 09:08 PM

Sorry to hear Ian. Hopefully he makes a full recovery!
