Small update for the tank. After a long hard month of battling to stabilize the tank things are finally turning around. I did lose a few colonies but even through all the parameter and temperature swings most of the sps has retained its color except for of course ssc, fireice echinata. Oh well. it is what it is. As per usual, this thread is picture heavy.

I can not tell that there is anything wrong with your tank, or that anything happened! It still looks stellar man! Keep on keepin' on :-)
|
i'd just love to pull a few of those gorgeous colonies out and be done growing my tank lol. glad to hear things are back-on-track. you're off-track is my idea of perfection already!

Rich, it looks great. Ya i agree, if you didn't say anything we would have never known. Can't wait for that SSC to smarten up, will u be coming over on sunday the 5th, to brads for the frag swap?
Side note: your wrasse collection looks awesome, which ones do u have? |

So here is my wrasse collection so far, lineatus, flame, labouti(in the overflow atm), yellow coris, yellow flank, nahacky, rhomboid, red tail tamarin, black tail tamarin, scotts, red margin and others. I also had a whole bunch that committed suicide. I still have a few on the hit list like the hooded. One thing that's odd is I tried to pair up all the wrasses but even though they come in as a pair, the female would still turn male shortly after its introduction. I think I might have too much testosterone in the tank. |

May update...
Kalk over dose... I don't know why but couple of weeks back I decided to clean out my kalk reactor. While I was doing that I had some hair algae that I had remove from the frag tank along with a couple of gallons of water. So, not realizing how much the water has gone down and how much more efficient the reactor was operating at I plugged every thing back in and went to bed. I am not sure if its only me that work on the tank late into the night or its pretty common amounts us hobbyist, a simple water change at 7pm always turns into 12:30 or 2 am. :noidea::noidea: When I woke up that's when I noticed the tank was cloudy and ph has shot up to 9.2 - 4 ish. Fak! Obviously I was late for work and had to go but when I came home the cloudiness has gone away but the ph was staying around 9 ish. Long story short, I was naive enough to think the high volume of the tank can withstand the kalk overdose, for the most part it did but I did managed to burnt the tip of a few colonies and killed a couple. I eventually did a few water changes but it was too long too late. oh well life goes on. the joy of this hobby. Here are a few pictures I took with my Iphone yesterday. http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...psf22fb9f4.jpg http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...psf73c85d9.jpg http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...psbf900799.jpg Everything is coming back again... gotta couple of new pieces http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...ps535a6d1c.jpg http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4c11216f.jpg http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/...ps23ff663e.jpg |
I considered a kalk reactor myself, but due to the fact it can be overdosed, I'd rather just keep it manual for that reason. I'm the same way with my ATO water, just do it myself to not risk the headache! Sorry for your losses!
Tank looks very nice, I'm sure the pictures do it no justice! I'll have to come by and snag some frags from you and see it in person! ;) |

I remember seeing that tank in person last year when I bought a wavebox off of you. Still gorgeous!
|
Ack !! Enough with the coral killing already
Nice new corals you got there bud |
Rich, the tank still looking great as usual! Had planned to come out this weekend to drop off your new additions but will have to delay the trip over until later in June. Been busy with work and other stuff plus will have to wait for Jon to return from his holiday. This will give you time to make room in your frag or DT.

Thanks for allowing me to stop by so late the other evening. The frags are doing fantastic, so this very promising towards my so called SPS addiction.
Thanks Rich and will have to visit soon as the frags are setting in quite nicely and seem very happy under my Radions. |

Sorry for the crap pictures. I have been lazy with the heat so iphone pics it is.
I lost a large blue milli colony due to my horrific alkalinity swing and a long line of misfortunate issues I had. Now that every thing has stablized and started to really take off again I can barely keep up with the big 3 even with my RX6 duo on a stream and large kalk reactor it still needs manual dosing. I tested on the 25 th of June and got 6.9 alk, 380 cal, and 1260 mag. I used BRS solutions and manually dosed 350ml of alk 1.3l of cal and 2.9l of mag to boost up the numbers but by the time I checked on the 1st alk is back down at 5.9, 380 for cal and 1300 for mag. So maybe its time to get a bigger calcium reactor.... Started weekly dosage of lugol's and to my surprise its aiding with a more vibrant blue from my acros and most of them seems more happy. I will see what the long term effects will be and report back. My goal is to eliminate all the other additives and just use the 3 I think matters the most. Amino acid, lugol, and zeobak9microbac). |
