Dave, that power issue, did you get an electrician to install all those circuits?

There are devices like this:

http://www.itwatchdogs.com/product-d...ger_x2-61.html

That can monitor power and your can track them (SNMP traps, emails, etc) and with a UPS and small server, you can log everything and even get power usage stats. What gets measured gets managed. ;)

To run everything on a UPS, you're going to need to think big, like home genset big - if your power goes out for 12 hours on account of ENMAX (not impossible), all the emails in the world won't prevent an issue. You'd have to get a pretty big portable generator to keep everything running for any extended period of time.

If you get any UPS to run the motors for your pumps, you might want to check out how they run on the step-approximated UPS's... I have to use a true sine UPS otherwise the motor on my pumps just shudders for 5 minutes.

i was looking at getting one of these on a switching sub-panel
http://www.homedepot.ca/product/eco-...closure/934334

from what i understand, if the house losts power the sub-panel will switch over to the generator with in 10 seconds.

it will only power the pumps and heater

the generator runs on natural gas so it should be able to run extend period of time

Yeah, those ng units are perfect for a self-sustaining home because it has to be a major disaster before NG goes down... And honestly, if that came to pass - the fish won't be on your mind.

6kw should do a fair amount. You might want to put a couple light circuit on it too and your furnace, so lights and climate stay on if you can afford based on the draw. What does an tank that size take to heat it you imagine?

I presume you will get a hrv to just keep it dry. :)

I must say, I'm jealous of the look, but it would be more mantainence than I can do. :)

Do you guys have a website with customer's tank pics? That would be really nice to give the rest of us an idea of what you guys can do.

couldn't get motivated enough to go into work today, so i figure i would call one of my staff to help me work on the electrical today.

who would have thought running nine circuits takes so long to do:lol:

so this is the new sub-panel we installed with 7 gfi dead fronts and two regular plug

next up will be to clean up the wiring in the main panel and have the hrv installed this week
