Hi, it was great seeing you again too  Oh, and thanks for the last minute gift you gave us  I always wanted a bag of air   I have to admit I had a very good laugh over that

Your tank is looking good and glad to hear the new additions are doing well.

If you want to stop by and look at them just send me a message, I'm right in Red Deer now so stopping in isn't a huge journey anymore. It wouldn't be a big hassle at all to plug it into my profilux and give you a demo.

I hope Doug didn't hog it all and at least shared some with you:razz::razz:

Things were going well until about 7 pm tonight when water started gushing from my sump.

I will do Chris, would like to see how your tank is doing in person anyways

The Grizz 01-02-2011 06:11 AM

So 2011 did not come in to nice. Around 7 pm tonight the wife and I were sitting down to some dinner and a movie when all of a sudden I could hear running water, looked down at the corner of my tank to see the worst possible thing WATER POURING OUT OF THE CORNER OF THE STAND.

So out come the buckets and the wife goes running to the pool room to grab all the pool towels and the mad dash was on. Managed to shut down the flow, got the return line out of the sump for my reactor and started to empty the sump compartments. Called Terry for some more buckets, him and Josh come out and gave me a hand to get the sump out and to the shop for repair.

Now I have a temp sump (30 gal tank) running with 1 skimmer and my pellet reactor hope it is enough to sustained the tank, too much livestock to lose and the wife would kill me.

golf nut 01-02-2011 06:46 AM

Any idea what caused it to leak?

No idea, I had all the flow off for feeding some of the new Acan Plus and the gush!

I did how ever reinforce the corners that split with a strip of acrylic on the inside so I hope it will not happen again.

Did your wife not suggest to reinforce the corners that haven't split yet?

She didnt have to already doing it

I am just glad we were home or I would have come home to a MAJOR disaster.

kien 01-02-2011 08:20 AM

Wow! Glad to hear you sorted it out without any casualties. Do you run your sump at full capacity? Like, full up with water?

fishoholic 01-02-2011 02:12 PM

Yikes! sorry to hear that  Good thing you were home and able to get it under control and that the fish and corals are fine.

The Grizz 01-02-2011 05:27 PM

So it looks like my temp sump is doing the job, temp staying @ 82, pellets still tumbling and skimmer skimming. The only thing I am not liking is some small bubbles coming out of the returns.

Hope to have the sump back in tonight, after a cleaning and leak test.

Coleus 01-02-2011 06:24 PM

Good to know everything is ok.

Hey Kien, the sump does not run full of water about half but when I shut off the flow it increases to about 3/4 full

So for everything is holding up, my new Powder Blue is a little stressed and showing some signs of ich and there is no place here to get a cleaner wrasse either.

The sump is sitting in the shop 100% full right now and when I get home I will see if it is in one piece, and put it back in.

You can thank Steve @ RCE for the contents of the package:lol:

I am putting the sump back in tonight with my new Reeflo Snapper pump I got before Xmas. This will double my return flow and the only positive thing to come out of the sump rupture.

Curious as to why you would do this, is there something that you don't like about your sump turnover rate?

Paul

I am looking to increase water movement without power heads. Since I have added the loc-lines to my closed loop it has been a big improvement. I have one SPS that I got almost a year ago from lobsterboy and since the closed lo upgrade I have notice more polyp extension and signs of some growth finally.

Funny how that works but unfortunately it has to wait until tomorrow because I used the 2 fitting I needed to put in the new pump on Graham's (othicx's) tank today.:frusty:

The Grizz 01-05-2011 05:17 PM

So here is a picture of the temp sump that I threw together for the couple days while I repaired the big acrylic sump.

Had to pick up a couple 1" nipples on Monday so I could put in my new Reeflo Snapper return pump and here is the sump all shinny and clean. I forgot what it looked like at the start.

i need those blue zoos...:jaw:

kien 01-06-2011 04:22 AM

Nice zoos and PBT there Greg! Make sure you stuff the bajesus out of your pBT with whatever it is he's eating now. I find that you can increase your success rate with them if you feed them heavily at the get go. They are extremely fickle fish and can go on hunger strikes for no apparent reason. If they haven't stored enough calories they can waste away quick. Then they get sick and continue to lose appetite and then all down hill from there sadly. Anyway, not meaning to scare you or anything. I know you said he is eating well so just take advantage of that and try to fatten him up. :)

He is a little piggy when it come to feeding times, I now feed 4 times a day and mostly on his side of the tank.

The Grizz 01-10-2011 01:55 AM

A few more new additions to the 8'er

Checker Board Wrasse

http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/x...R/1ac61594.png

Purple Tip Aussi Elegance

http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/x...R/a94caa83.png

Also picked up a Cleaner Wrasse, was worried about it though because my 6 Line Wrasse was being a jerk and chasing it all over the tank but has settled down now.

Tried to get a good pick of the Cleaner but he is a speedy little bugger.

The Grizz 01-10-2011 03:56 AM

Finally got a pic of the Cleaner Wrasse

http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/x...R/55b03854.png

And this one is my favorite pic ATM, 1 of my Lawnmower Blennies like to hang out in this.....so I have not taken it out after I unplugged it.

Delphinus 01-10-2011 05:22 AM

Oh man that last pic is asking for trouble if you ask me! I'd be getting that pump outta there so it can't be plugged in accidentally. I could see it happening to me anyhow: unplug some other item for "just a minute" then plug the wrong thing back in and ....... heard of it happening with LMB's diving into Tunzes and um not quite coming out in one piece.

Checkerboard wrasse looks pretty neat!!

Coleus 01-10-2011 05:35 AM

It is great to see the Salfin Tang is recovering nicely. Cheers

There is no way that will happen, I have taken the cord and rolled it up, zip tied and tape the prongs over. Just to make damn sure I don't plug it in.

The checker board wrasse is sweet & when he gets more comfortable I hope some more of his colors show. My guy Ryan @ BA got him in and held it for me for 2 weeks until I could get down there.
