Well I am not much familiar with how to garbage/recycle what (other than bottles and kitchen garbage ). Since I am moving out from my old house (yes got a new house and the property manager is looking forward to my tank and see wants a feather duster in the tank ). So I have some light fixtures (not to be excited about, just old T8/T12 fixtures which some people left in my basement), old CRT tv and a cracked tank. So where should I dump these? Any idea?

here in the lower mainland, salvation army depots recycle electronics. So your CRT would go there if you were here. lol
Phone your local recycling center

ikea will take your old bulbs. They have a bulb and battery recycling spot between their cash register and their returns section.

As for your old electronics, there's a lot of places that will do e-recycling. this may help. (http://www.calgary.ca/UEP/WRS/Pages/Recycling-information/Residential-services/Electronics-recycling/Electronics-Recycling.aspx)

Thanks Kien. Didn't know about the ikea taking old bulbs. Any idea about the cracked tank?

Hmm, good question. I have no clue. I would either offer it for free on Canreef or Kijiji, or call around to glass shops to see if they will take it. Presumably they do something with their glass scraps ?

Cracked tanks are great to rip apart and use for scape glass for building sumps thats for sure.

I tried googling and people suggested to smash the glass and put it in a bag and throw it in the blue bin. I really don't like splinters :surprise:

That's also very dangerous for the sorting people at the facilities.. I would see what glass shops do with old glass. Maybe text Dave/Denny and ask them.

I tried to cut off the silicon but seems like too much work for something that I might not need anytime soon. Possibly will post in kijiji to see whether someone is interested.

No just always looking for glass to help others build sumps.
