Good Day:

I have owned a JBJ 29 Nano reef tank for the last year. I think it is 3 or 4 years old. I have been having some issues with algae and cynaobacteria. I did recall that the sand was quite dirty when I moved it last year. I am thinking about swapping out the sand all in one go and was wondering which sand and depth you would recommend.

I was thinking of one 20 lb bag of Caribsea Arag-Alive Special Grade Reef sand (1-2 mm) size or possibly the "sugar" sand. I have the sugar sand in my 8 gallon nano and I don't terrible like it. It seems to get blown around pretty easy.

I was wondering what people would recommend for the depth.

Thanks,

Michael

I am not a big fan of sugar sand moves way too much I'd rather put crushed coral mixed with course sand 4:1 mix that being said an inch to an inch and a half is more than enough depth in that tank

Some people swear by deeper sand bed but it is a personal choice based on looks and functionality on how deep It should be
