Is it good idea to add a couple of tuxedo urchins into my 280 gallons tank? Right now I have a whole bunch of wrasses and a few tangs. Worry about the MP60s might chew them up.

Thank you for your inputs.

I've had a lone blue tux urchin in my mixed reef tank for years. 3 VorTech MP40WES, no mishap so far. Occasionally after lights out, I have the odd snail that crawls on to the VorTechs. Just last night I heard a rumbling sound from the tank, shot a flashlight beam at the powerhead & there was a snail part way into the front of the cage. It figured out on it's own that it should retreat before I had to intervene.

MP60 has a wider slots in the grills. I think I will give it a try and find out.

One more question can we pick it up by hand?

I have two tuxedo urchins in my tank for over a year running two MP 40's and never an issue. I've picked mine up several times, just don't squeeze them!

I got pricked by mine two weeks ago. Makes your hand really damn itchy. Remember to feed them. They eat a lot of algae

They love Coralline Algae but will eat most other types as well.

How about green hair algae?

They seem to prefer coralline but if there is no algae to eat I'm sure they will eat the green hair as well, a lawn mower blenny is better if you want to keep hair algae down.
