starting up a nano

i had a 10g freshwater for awhile but i want to start up a 10g nano tank,
what do i need to get started?

Good lighting, small skimmer or hang-on filter with media, small powerhead(s), substrate (sand or other), live rock (10-15 lbs), heater, glass scraper, thermometer, hydrometer, test kits, syringe, turkey baster, nets, clear plastic containers, tongs, gloves, salt mix, RO water (if you're fussy), mixing bucket, extra powerhead for mixing, plastic tubing, and some old towels.

And maybe some duct tape. :biggrin:

Oh, and a 20 gallon would be better - easier to maintain stability in water quality. Plus there's some good 24" lighting fixtures.

Can't imagine what you'd use duct tape for in a reef :eek: :mrgreen: :razz: I'm sticking to Lego (no pun intended) to problem solve in my reefs :biggrin: :cool:

For equipment, I'd like to add a heater for the salt mixing bucket and a note pad for keeping records of test results. Test kits to use are ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, KH, calcium, magnesium. A pH probe and monitor are also great to have.

Beverly Lego is too Darn expensive these days. :mrgreen: Its become too popular. But i am with you the full way :question: what would you use duct tape for :question: I used to to tape my background on but thats because i could not find any paint at the time.

It's not expensive if you have a husband that has collected Lego for years and has two big rubbermaid tubs full of the stuff that he never uses :lol: Lots of colours to choose from, too, but I only use the black ones for reefing :smilecol:

Alan is essentially saying you need everything you would need if you were setting up a bigger tank, but in smaller amounts. BTW, I have a 20H available if you want to go that route. :mrgreen:

As you are the chief language police officer here, I must now agree with your assessment. Common misuse of the word "that". Shame on me :redface: Should have used "who" instead. Don't know how this is going to help our new reefer, though :confused: :mrgreen:

You clever, clever fellow :cool: Come to think of it, I DO use duct tape for reefkeeping :biggrin: I have so many plugs in my powerbars, that I cut a 1/2" piece of duct tape and tape it around the cord near the plug of each powerhead. Helps me differentiate between heaters and powerheads. As I'm in the habit of breaking down and cleaning PHs weekly, at a glance I can remove the right plugs. Plugs for lighting plug into a timer, so no need to tell light plugs from other plugs.

The tank is just that, a tank. No top or anything else. If you need a bare tank, you can have it for $20.00. :mrgreen:

If you can wait a few weeks, I should have a great Nano-tank for sale, a 29 gallon (30x12x18"). It may even come complete with a 3" sandbed!
