How long have you had them? Any other wrasse tank mates?

6months ish and I had a a blue face wrasse but he was two aggressive towards my ramora so I got rid of him and they both lived great with a two spot wrasse till I removed my sand bed. So I would say there are both defiantly good with wrasses but have never had to fight so stress from aggresition could be fatal toward them

Asking 175 each or 300 for both

I understand that , but the way JL sells them works out to about $135 for the male, and $50 for the female approximately. Where he is asking for $150 each which is already more than they sell for at the store. I wasn't complaining about how much he was asking , the only reason I posted JL's price was because he asked if the price was too high.

Live aquaria sells one male for $400

Do 2 males get along reasonably OK in the same tank? Do you need to have more than 1 male in order to have a supermale? I have a male/female pair in my FOWLR but I don't think my male is a supermale. I've always wondered if I should try adding a new female to give him a reason to show off more, or if you need to add a male in order to produce a tiny bit of competition...

Tony I bought mine as a pair and there's no mistaking the male and female, my male is quite large and I added a second female which IMO does make him show off a lot more but unfortunately the second female wouldn't eat so its back to my origional pair.

The colors on my male are much brighter and he protects the female, I'm almost sure I've witnessed mating behavior the way they act together but who knows lol

Prices vary on this fish anywhere you go but its always expensive lol

On a fish like this, I'd be happy to spend the same if not slightly more than store prices for a healthy established fish. I've bought expensive fish from stores just to have them die a few weeks later.

I'm tempted to take one, just not good timing.......glws!

That's a great point , its nice to get a healthy fish from another reefer that you know is eating well rather than taking chances with a fish that was just shipped.

A single female will turn male if kept alone ,and then turn into a supermale with time. A sub male with also turn into a supermale with time as well. I only have one supermale flame and he flashes all the time to my melanarus and then chases him around the tank lol. I would say give it time and your male should turn into a supermale.

Maybe dose kryptonite to accelerate the process?

Sorry for the hijack

I read that the supermale is caused by him being a heavy aggressor/pack leader in the tank.so being the only dominant fish in the aquarium is what I under stood
