I have a friend that lives in Camrose and she wants to start a reef tank. Will she be okay using the water well for her tank or will she need to do anything extra before she can use it? I would assume she'll be best investing in RO water but is it a must??

She'll need to get a proper water analysis(full matrix),and I would say an RO is a must on well water.

+1

I grew up on Well water and while it has natural filtration it may have heavy metals and other goodies while not harmful to us it may be a killer to her tank its well worth the money to invest even in a basic RO system which cheap ones will run about $150 this is the one I have http://www.jlaquatics.com/product/vt-ro100/Vertex+Puratek+Reverse+Osmosis+%28RO%29+Filter+-+100GPD.html

If I used water directly from my well it would kill everything in minutes, we can even think about drinking the well water without it going though our whole house RO.

A rodi is a must on well water. Just an FYI I'm born and raised on well water and its the only water I can drink without a side effect of some creation.

Any idea where she would be able to get such an analysis? Maybe a test kit?

Take a 2 liter sample of the well water into any where that deals with commercial water systems & they should be able to send it out for testing.

a booster pump will also be needed on the well to get the ro to run properly.

Even with a booster pump our well is so cold we get slow water production.
