Here are some pics of the koi pond I am building, be nice, its not done yet....lol
The liner still needs to be trimmed at ground level, the crush needs to be placed around the pond and rest of yard, the pond waterfall is not built yet(at the far end close to the filter) the filter works great, its an upflow design with an open water area for the first 8" or so for settling debris that can be drained by the simple turn of a ball valve. the overflows are 2" and 1 1/2", the feed line comming from the submersible pump is 1 1/4" and the pump is rated for about 2000gph at 4'TDH. The media is similar to packaging nylon wrap but is stamped with a pattern for extra surface area, it works great, cleans easy, dosent clog, and lasts 5+ years no prob(its made by Savio) In the pics the pond is not full, the rocks are usually in about 3"-4" of water, we have just started pond plants, I will post pics to show progress. In the pic where you can see most of the front yard you will notice that the yard has a larger lower level, a much larger koi pond with a lookout island will take up 2/3 of the lower part of the yard... the top pond will have a winding stream going from itself to the lower pond. We are doing alot of renos, I will post as it goes....

Kyle, are you guys on septic fields out there or city sewer? I want to put my pond in one place but part of it would cover some of my field, just wondering how much of a problem it would cause.

in this place we are on city sewer so no worries, another one I built 5 years ago is merging onto field too, it has shown no problems, as long as you dont have septic flodding problems I dont see it as an issue as long as it still leavs "some" septic field open....

Nice job. Not big enough though. If I didn't have a dog and my wife didn't run a daycare my whole backyard would be water.

With a nice slope like that to your yard you could put in a real nice stream down to an even bigger pond right about where that wheel barrow is.

Water is good. You don't have to mow water.

The bottom pond will be about 25'x20' and abouty 4' deep with a few shelves, it will have a walking bridge out to the center where there will be a little lookout hut for sitting and feeding, pretty much the whole front yard will be pond.....
