I have a special order into Ray at Reef Supplies now, for a Vertex Vectra with 200mm lid.

LFS, should take note, why are we going out of the city for our supplies? instead of supporting our LFS

The store I usually shop at in Edmonton is preaty good in my opinion everything I buy there is at j&l pricing. I do order stuff from out of town but it's usually something I want that the store doesn't carry. I wanted a water blaster pump for my new build and the other Lfs wanted $330 and I got it from ray for $220 shiped to my door. And then another Lfs I like too but everything's special order or 2 weeks away when I ask about something, but if I mail order it it ships out tomorrow because it's in stock. I think my complaint is this. 1 Lfs prices are crazy. #2 store has great prices, stuff in stock most times, let's me know when the items are in. But dosent carry all brands I like. #3 Lfs is good but no stock and some items are more than double in price. Some store have to reilize if they stock the items and price them reasonably they'll sell them and more of them (making more money by selling more stock for less)

This is my rant for the day :)

The answer to that is easy for me.
1-Some stores I just refuse to enter now. The service that I received from the employee's has turned me away. I have delt with Ray on several occasions, and every single time Ive been impressed with his service and attitude.

2-I do not live in town, so if I need something I have to drive in for it. Some things I need RFN, so off I go. For other things it comes to my door, for at most $10 shipping? Ill burn that in gas.

I'm new to this hobby. Got a established 10 gallon and now a 45 gallon with 25lbs rock I'm slowly getting ready. It's cycled and good to go but empty except rock. But now I'm curious as I'm needing salt is it better to order online or search lfs? Also a st albertan lol

Find our what kind of salt you want, then get it locally, shipping cost is expensive. Shop around.

That's a sweet deal Phil. I usually stock up on salt on boxing day but the bigger tank eats through the salt like crazy!!
