course substrate for burrowing wrasses?

I've always used a fairly fine grade of sand but can appreciate how much easier it is to keep a courser grade clean with vacuuming when it's too heavy to be sucked up.

Can leopards etc sleep under this stuff?

I've had them in substrate other than sugar...such as....i actually prefer this 3/4 of the time. Caribsea seaflor Special Grade reef sand.....they have never had a problem with it...I had some wrasses for over 4 years in it...they buried themselves just like it was the sugar sand. Yes a Leopard Wrasse was one of them.

I have about a 3.5" Melanurus that powers into crushed coral/shell substrate. Not sure how he doesn't mark himself up but he has no troubles on the first attempt everytime. Substrate I would say ranges from 2mm up to about 6mm shell pieces.

all my wrasses sleep in large substrate , same as the stuff in the tanks at the store. they seem to have no trouble with it , their beaks are made for piercing the gravel.

if the sand bed is too shallow they will dive into glass damaging their beaks.
