I've seen people using them on their algae scrubbers but I haven't seen anything over refugiums yet. Thoughts?

I haven't seen any. I believe the red LEDs are supposed to be ideal for algae growing, not macros. Either way, it's an interesting topic.

Not to hijack the thread, but where do people get the red LED lights?

Macro is an algae though.

Using red alone wouldn't be ideal, especially LEDs since the wavelength is so narrow. While red is typically the primary spectrum used by most algae it varies by species. A better solution would be to use a full spectrum and supplement with additional red.

most plant growing led fixtures i have seen are mostly red with some blue and also 120watt+ i kinda wanna try one out but 120watts is quite a bit for a small fuge. Might try a red/blue par38 or something like that and see how it goes.

I like the look of this one. 3W LEDs and a good warranty:

I use red/blue/varies of 6500k-15000k white LEDs on my refuge. Grows like mad!
