A friend of mine at work just got one for his new build. Unfortunately came shipped with a broken air intake pipe.
He said build quality is top notch. Won't know performance till it hits water.

They look very close to a bubble king so I can imagine they work well, it's vertex product so you can almost assume they work good. I was looking at reviews before and they look like its a well liked slimmer so far but it's still fairly new . My thought is go to a Lfs store and find a skimmer for under 400 bucks that looks this nice and built this well that can handle up to 150 gallons. Only thing I would wonder about us the sicci pump never used them before but had a friend with a return pump and seemed good. I ordered some of there powerheads the other day.

I think most concerning about the Sicce pump is they are being custom built for Vertex, so parts down the road may be difficult to come by. But it looks like a great skimmer and, since I'm in need of an upgrade, I am considering this also.

Ya I thought about the pump too. I think I'm gonna get one for sure but I'm gonna price a replacement impeller just to b safe. It also has a two year warentee

I picked one up last week. Been set up and running producing amazing thick skim mate since day two! Runs very quiet. Optimal water depth is 7 1/2" or so but can be adjusted for other depths.

Photo from last Saturday night when it was installed into my sump

What would you like to know? I have been running this skimmer since the end of December and haven't had an issue.

Skimmer has been running great. No noise what so ever. Everything on my reef runs "whisper" quiet. Just cleaned the skimmer on Saturday and just took this pic tonight. I would recommend this skimmer to anyone! The bubbles are NOT coming from those skimmer. They are coming from an air stone with my Nitra-Guard bio-cubes.

Bought the same unit from JL Aquatics. It sounds great but have not had a chance to get it out of the box and get it up and running.

Do yourself a favour and crack that box open and get it running!!!!! You won't regret it. Amazing skimmer at an unbelievable price.

Should have mine in about a week! Def excited to try one of these out. Amazing value if they turn out to be solid pumps.

going to set mine up in my sump tonight. Looking forward to it's magic. Also adding a color module to the illumina 260. UV, red, and green all in one pad! Christmas is finally here for my reef!

You guys should love the new skimmers! Has run solid for me so far and love the performance.....don't love the frequent cleanings that are required but really who really enjoys cleaning the skimmer?!?

Chef, good luck with the new multi colour aux pads. I have 3 red and 2 UV pads in mine and love them. Have been looking at the multi colour pads but haven't committed yet. Let me know at you think of them. And also if each of the colours are controllable individually.

All channels on the multi pad can be tuned individually.

Edit: oh yah, skimmer is awesome <3

^what Albert said. Got the light shining down on my reef and it is definitely the missing link that was needed.
Skimmer is louder (still new) than the swc160 I upgraded from. I am hoping this will change.

Are you sure the skimmer is sitting on all the rubber feet and not touching the side of your sump? Mine makes almost zero noise. The bubbles and foam seem to make most of the noise for me. And my entire system is dead quiet.

Also helps if you adjust the intake nozzle to tune out some of the noise (water height dependent).

Hoping one of you that own one of these might be able to help. Considered starting my own thread but opted for a highjack. I was really on the fence with that. Anyway. I have been eyeing this skimmer for my current tank. I think it will fit but its going to be tight. I have tried to find more detailed dimensions other then 11"X11" footprint. Attatched is a picture of my sump. The opening in the second chamber is 10"X11.75" . Below the "sock rack" it extends to 15". Now the water level in the chamber will be about 10" (the hight where the socks will sit to try to reduce noise, hopefully this will work, at least it does in my head, might have to put another lip to allow for when the socks plug up a bit, thats another thread, man, ramble.) so I will have to have the skimmer on a bit of a stand but I figure I can tuck the pump under the sock rack side and have enough room around the body so it still fits. Anyone have any other thoughts?

I was getting pretty annoyed at how often this thing would overflow. It seemed very sensitive but there was obviously not enough load with just my rock to do this skimmer justice. I added my livestock last night and this morning there's already an inch of nog in the cup and the foam head is very stable. By default my chamber is 10 inches deep so I'm not expecting dark skimmate but I'll let it do its thing for a bit before deciding whether I'll raise the unit up.

Really impressed with build quality!

I just made the chamber in my sump for this skimmer - 14" x 12" is what I gave it for room - so you should be good, you might find yourself assembly the pump to the body once the skimmer is placed in the sump because of your sock holder

I just bought a new omega 150 and self cleaning head by vertex, hope it will increase 75% performance. It Costed $215 with motor and lid, it takes 3 days order from J&L. Thanks Jeff!

I have read tons of reviews and this is an on-going issue with them. Other than the pin wheel issue, they are well built and work very well. The customer service for replacing the pin wheel have been excellent from what I have read.
