Heheh I just turned the ISO down all the way. My camera is a very cheap $200 Canon. You can even see my Christmas lights in the background.

Brad that progression is mighty impressive! I wish you still have the nice LPS on the sand but small price to pay for tank maturity.
And Donny your picture makes your tank look awesome (but dim too). My eyes are still sore from staring into that tank it's so bright lol.

Thanks. Those LPS were almost all Shelley's, just coral sitting for her when her tank broke.

No kidding, LOL, it's insane isn't it?? I even debated taking another FTS because the growth in the last month is crazy.
I have been feeding my fish a lot and as my coral grew or paled a bit I added more fish. Once I got on a role I bumped up the lighting, the coral grew faster and I fed more or added more fish anytime I thought the coral paled a bit.
A few times I use Oyster Feast and when I thought my Alien Eye Chalice was bleaching out, 7 months ago, I added some Amino Acids. All is well now.
For 2013, I am looking to add more fish, remove all the auditioning coral on the sand bed since my rock is covered now and adding Chalice coral, in strategic spots, for more diversity.
:)
I see a new Tank of the month.

So your secret is to add more fish, then feed more, then add corals, then bump the lights, then feed more, then add more fish, then add more corals, then feed more ...
Sounds like a regular reefer schedule to me

Thank you for the nice compliments, Leah and gregzz4.
Sure I may have over simplified my technique but that said there are no secrets either.
Once I was absolutely sure I could keep my Ca, and kH, rock solid stable and that my reef system had absolutely no Nitrate or Phosphate I located the most colourful "Aqua-Cultured" SPS frags I could find. My new Frags came from a system with similar water parameters and had grown into beauties under these aquarium conditions. Aqua-Cultured
My goal, once I added these to my system, was to do what ever I had to do to keep their colours..... that is it.
I didn't starve my reef to save my coral....I fed my reef to keep them happy. Starving them hurt the colour. As long as I had 0 Nitrate and 0 Phosphate the colour never changed one bit, and my coral grew like crazy.
Before you are the results......and to the hobbyist that I obtained my seed frags from.....Congrats on your annointment, dvanacker aka reefermadness as Reef Centrals honorary December Tank of the Month Award 2012 . A world class hobbyist with a world class aquarium.

:)Thanks Bill. Its nice that you mention me but you did all the work and it looks great. I also know you got a collection of corals in there from all over.
Its true about no special secrets or potions though....the methods are basic but hard to grasp sometimes for what ever reason (it took me a while too). I'm so glad to see fellow and local reefers achieve this kind of success and I think if we keep spreading the word about what is possible that we will see more and more.

if its anything like my tank its the black plastic on the back of the tank, pain in the ass to scrub the coraline of and almost impossible lol
that coraline looks like a nice natural feel. I scrape my black acrylic constantly because I dig the contrast the black adds to the corals. This is definitely a good example of the opposite :surprise:

I did try a couple of times to remove the coraline but it is almost impossible to remove it from the round plastic corner overflow anyway so instead I've learned to like the look of it like this !

Looks like you are ready to light up plenty of coral. Your tank info says AI SOLS but they look like something else. What are the LED modules in this picture?

lol! no sir.
I got the live rock quite some time ago, from two separate tank shut down deals. It was so much rock, I had to chisel and break up quite a few pieces. No cool shaped pieces were harmed in the process, only LR that were monotonous in shape.

I still haven't put one together for CanReef ... I keep telling myself I'm going to sit down and put it together ... and then I go clean my skimmer, or do a water change lol.
I do intend to get around to it soon. Today however I'm wiring up UV's ... to supplement my current LED's
