View Full Version : Anemone - What type? Do you know?

I got this anemone a few weeks back and was told it was a RBTA. I am no expert so I am looking for some feedback. What is it. There is a bubble/ridge in the tentacle but is it a long tentacle and not a bubble tip?

The Colors are a bit off due to lighting. It has a green/pink center and red/pink tentacles. There is no blue to it like in the pics. The tentacles are usually long like in the pics and not short. The odd time that they are short they take a vibrant orange/pink color. When they do take a short appearance there is still a ridge/bubble to them but not like in the pics I see online for a BTA.

So, what is it? A RBTA with longer than normal tentacles?

Hard to tell without a good look at the base.

It could well be a BTA (Entacmaea quadricolor if you're into Latin names). I don't think you'll find LTA's (Macrodactyla doreensis) with a bulge like that in the tentacles.

The "bubble tip" tentacles in BTA's tend to come and go in captivity. It's not really known why or how, it just happens. I find mine will usually come back after a split but then eventually go back to long and stringy.

I would say its a RBTA for sure. The bulge is a give away... I had a nice RBTA that as it got larger lost its bulges but still kept awesome colours.

I just recently noticed on one of my RBTA's that I changed the lights and it started to bulb up again.. don't know if that's the direct reason but an interesting note none the less.

I picked one up the other day that looks very much the same. It was sold as an RBTA as well, but i agree, they are slightly different then some other RBTA's a I've seen. Perhaps its a native location thing? Not sure...
