Hey everyone, I am upgrading my saltwater tank status from pico to nano. haha I have aquired from a friend a jbj 12 gallon nano dx! from my research they are quite stable, easy to maintain and quite easy to modify. I am curious though if I should upgrade the pump from a maxijet900 (quite old looking) to a brand new maxijet 1200 powerhead/ circ pump from BRS? I will also be getting the hydor flo attachment for more randomization of water current because at the moment my Duckbil has vanished.

And due to some controversy over a particular issue, should I attmpet to use a oceanic biocube protien skimmer? or leave as is and turn chamber #2 into a cheat house?
thanks for the feed back
-Jay

Here is my build so far for my tank, still curious about the cheato chamber if anyone has a 12 gallon jbj.

Also I have a few questions on shrimp stockage
I have 3 sexy shrimp, but would like to add a peppermint and cleaner shrimp in the tank; will this combo work out?

2 x 3 watt 453 nm blue
1 x 3watt 12k & 453nm Blue

Hydor flow reflector (xmas gifty)

Live stock: (waiting in pico tank)
3 lbs LR
5 lbs Ls
3x sexy shrimp (1 male, 2 female)
Maximini carpet nem
pulsing xenia (sm frag)
yuma ric (purple green)
beautiful GSP

10-12 lbs LR
10 lbs LS

Anticipated:

make sure have your maxi mini in the tank before anything else, cuz usually it stick to a rock work and will never move again. If you have your ric in the tank first, it will get stung by the maxi mini when the nem start moving around.
I also don't like to keep that many shrimps in the tank, I had exp with cleaner shrimp being aggressive and sexy shrimp will not have a chance. The maxi mini doesn't really pose a threat to the cleaner shrimp, I saw them dancing across my green carpet all the time for food.

sweet so possibly stay away from the cleaner, I have read the peppermint shrimp and sexys do well together and I will also be trying a few more maximinis as well as some more rics. They are starting to become something I really enjoy looking at in the tank

Tank running pefectly, transition was safe overall.
everything doing well, decided that I hate PC lighting and need to get some LEDS in there fast!
Here comes my wallet modular!~

Another thing though, is the dreaded Aiptasia. I believe I have one in my tank, and he is quite large!
about 1/2"-1" I dont see any other "babies"but Iam not 100% sure where else they may be.

I have shrimp and other corals, as well as 2 fish.
The shrimp are just sexy shrimp and are the same size as the Aiptasia, so they wont help.

Please and suggestions, I do have some coral dip but the rock the Aiptasia is on also is home to the Carpet nem (maximini). Will coral dipping get rid of this nasty bugger?

thanks for the help!

Get aptasia X. Works like charm and you can use it in water. Now that you have noticed one aptasia, it would be wise to have that in hand :P

BTW pics? :D

Would you advise dosing the entire system or taking the rock out and dosing it seperately? and will the Atipsia X harm my maximini on the same rock?

AiptasiaX is not for dosing, you receive a syringe with it and you feed it directly to the Aiptasia and it will make them implode. Search Youtube for videos. Therefore, unless you feed it to anything else, you won't harm anything.

much to my shigrin it would seem my sexy shrimp have a desire for the flesh of the dreaded aiptasia. I had three of the drifters come in on some frags, and now I see only one of the small ones, and the remains of the other smaller one. The large on is completely gone. Hopefully They ate them and it didnt just find somewhere safe to life. ahha

however, on the topic of pests

can anyone help me find more information about the
Lepidonotus melanogrammus
or dark marked scale worm

I believe I have stumbled upon one in my rock work and wish to know if perhaps, well short and sweet. If I touch it acciendetly will I die? hahaha

Has anyone incountered these before in the home aquirium
