What happened? Are they endangered species now? Price has doubled in the last few months.

not too long ago, a small sohal around 2" was only around $150 at J&L. Now $235

Makes me wonder if they are getting more scarce in the wild, considering they are only found in the Red Sea

Just a wee bit of conflict in that part of the world right now.

It's all because Red Sea is now a well-sorted brand; and you know what happens when a brand is well-sorted; it get's expensive

Pretty sure the Red Sea is still shut down for harvesting, so there is a shortage of fish from that area. And yes, shipping(fuel) costs keep going up, and air transport for livestock is up, so prices are up. I would still pay that for a decent specimen.

I have talked to a few stores and they seem to all say shipping costs are getting really high. Also like brad said, they aren't collecting in the Red Sea anymore. My guess is just a variety of factors.

I've noticed that Purple tangs are astronomical now too. My now deceased purple was 80 bucks, and I haven't seen one for less than 200 in months.

I guess I was lucky enough to get a 4" purple tang for $80 few weeks back. Although it was so stress out at the store, it looked like a yellow tail scopas.
