This might even spell the end of my 120g saltwater tank on the stairs

A paludarium in the making, this is going to go into a 29g bowfront aquarium, I haven't decided if it will house dart frogs yet but killifish are a must :lol:

Honestly that looks dreadful, totally unnatural; I'm pretty sure a better job could be made than monofoam.

Subscribed, I'm a big fan of paludariums will you be using an ultrasonic fogger in the enclosure?

I totally agree :lol: but that is just the background. Foam is a lot lighter then rock and wood and can be molded and carved easily.....unfortunately I have to wait for the foam to dry before I can cut it to shape and cover it with peat moss, wood bark ect and then plant the plants

I thought of a fogger but I haven't decided for sure, there is definitely going to be a waterfall. A lot of space behind the foam is open for the pump and heater

Can't wait to see how this evolves!!!! Foggers do look very very cool! But they get fairly warm to touch....we had an Exo Terra Fogger in our ET Waterfall, in the middle little pool and it did get quite warm..but did it ever look cool!

The ultrasonic fogger in my Red Eye Tree Frog enclosure literally boiled the frogs alive. Certainly has to be put on a timer otherwise it superheats the water :(.

I have friends locally who breed lots of different types of killifish. Let me know what you're interested in & I'll hook you up. I also know a couple of people who may have dartfrogs that I can ask.

Zoaelite...we did the same thing as it heated the water so much! We never got our frogs that hot...but it was too hot! Now we just have a "Monsoon" automatic waterer on the terrarium..they do very well that way! But we stopped carrying Dart Frogs and keep Red Eye Tree Frogs instead...love them!

With a heater & pump in there I would say 1-2 fish would be okay, they usually stay small (between 5-10cm) but can be found much larger in nature. Nothing like watching one of them nail a cricket 8" out of the water!

Agreed, one of my favorites hands down! I would also say RETF's are easier to breed if your ever looking to get into it Marie? This set up would be perfect, all you need is a large leafed plant that hangs over the water, a little frog love music and your good to go :razz:.

I've been reading up on the red eyed tree frogs.... the only problem? I'm pretty sure killifish would eat the tadpoles :lol:

That could be problem for sure, people usually separate the tadpoles into a separate tank to ensure proper water quality though.

At the point of Amplexus watch for egg laying, once the eggs are laid remove the leaf and suspend it over a 10g tank with life support system. The tadpoles will hatch, fall right into the tank and you are good to raise baby tree frogs!!!

I call first dibs on babies :razz:!

(Mind you seems to me makes perfect sense to still put the fogger on a timer.)

Can't wait to see this evolve. :) One day I hope to try this too!

That wouldn't be a bad idea, just means you need to set up a water reservoir above the tank and direct the mist through the top.

They do have auto systems for pretty cheap that accomplish this, I found only the water that the fogger was submerged in heated, not the mist itself.

Yep, that is the main point of the project actually :lol:. At the water line where you can still see the egg crate through the coconut fiber will be bog plants and carnivorous plants and higher up, there are holes in the foam where ferns, mosses and other plants will be

Certain carnivorous plants will eat your frogs if they are small enough :neutral:.

Can't say I'm overly thrilled with the results but for a first attempt it's ok. It still needs gravel in the bottom, cleaning up a bit and time for the plants to settle

Oh that looks much more fabulous :wink: I was afraid you were going to leave the awful cream coloured foam uncovered.

Will be some happy critters in there.
