I am setting up my 230G tank, it is 6ft long. I can't decide on a power head, hopefully you guys can help :-) my options are:

1- 1xMP60
2- 1xtunze 6150 with controller. Or
3- 2x mp40.

So what you guys think I should go with. I want to have softies and LPS. Also if you can state the good and bad about your option will be great. Thanks.

Abe.

imo... pair of mp40 or pair of 6105. both will be at very similar price if you buy them new or used.

Only because there are no vortechs running. Then you'd hear bearings :)

I vote for Tunze as well...

Or not working properly....

Its like you snoring at night, after few years of your wife sleeping beside you, she will eventually get use to it and might have a hard time falling asleep without you.

Once upon time my friend told me it was like symphony having 6 mp40's pulsing at once.......

I think the ticket may be one Vortech and one Tunze: the Vortech for massive water movement, and the Tunze for tuning the directional flow.

I'm not super psyched about my dual MP10s, but I do like how much water they move. It would be nice if I could point them in different directions.

I'm with you apexifd , I love my mp40's and I don't really even notice the noise and my tank is in my bedroom.

I've got 2 MP40's on my 180 and I don't think its enough. I've just added 2 Koralia 4's.

Or when your friend was snoring like a pig when you two were on the way to abbotsford to get some nice frags during rush hours traffic.

His snoring is what keeps you awake and knowing he is still alive when you are doing averaging 10km/h and 20 kms away from your destination.

back to the topic. in the 6' tank, you will need a pair of good size powerhead, doesn't matter Votech, Tunze, Sicce, Korallia, jebo, etc etc.. having a controllable flow from both directions will help to to keep everyone happy.

I would go with 2 MP40's. I always prefer two over one. (Even though I only have one MP40 on mine :) ). I never even hear my Vortec unless the alignment is off a bit.

And I love not seeing any cords coming out of my tank.

Lol thanks for the replies. So 2 mp40s better than one mp60? Also for the tunze one is not enough for a 6ft tank even tho on j and l they say it good up to 3000gph or so?

It's better to have multi-directional water flow. And 3000gph isn't that much. My tank has 2 x 6100 and 2 x 6055, a total somewhere around 9000gph, plus a MAG 12 return. I could add more...

Adding one pump will create a lot of dead areas, def need 2 or more. Tunze can also be pointed in different directions, those other ones can't. Big downfall, IMO
